Mark Your Calendars for the PDX People Customer Service Awards on Wednesday, Oct. 25
To recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary, we hold the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards. Winners in each category – along with their managers and members of our volunteer working committee – are invited to attend the event in person while it's live-streamed on Facebook. To watch, head to the PDX Facebook page on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at noon.
This quarter, we'll highlight one of our PDX People core values: Being knowledgeable. Our guest speaker, Lisa Caselli, Customs and Border Protection Officer and Program Manager Blue Lightning Initiative, will share insights on how to identify potential traffickers and human trafficking victims, and how to report suspicions to federal law enforcement.
Missed the last virtual awards ceremony? View the event recording or read about past winners on the PDX People website. You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

What's New with PDX Next: Airport Way, Ticket Lobby and Baggage Claim Updates
Airport Way: Beginning Monday, Oct. 16, through Friday, Oct. 20, expect lane changes eastbound on Airport Way. Through lanes will be narrowed during daytime hours for construction work on the TriMet Better Red project.
Ticket Lobby: During daytime work hours on Friday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 27, crews will perform demolition work over and adjacent to the former common use ticket counters in the central ticket lobby. Impacts may include noise, vibrations and odor – monitoring of these impacts will be in place. Work zone access and material haul will take place behind the wall in the construction area and won’t impact the ticket lobby.
Baggage Claim: While work continues along main bag road, baggage carousel 10 will close from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 12. United will use baggage carousel 9 during the shutdown.
Crane Pick: For safety while cranes are moving materials, the B/C bypass will close for about 90 minutes on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 1:30 to 3 a.m. Employees with red badges will have alternate route access through the security doors, but grey badge employees will not. Spotters will be in place throughout the bypass to prevent entry.
Coming Soon: In exciting news, we're getting close to completing a series of ground transportation projects that will make it easier to get in and out of PDX faster. Rideshares and taxis will soon have a new home on the first floor of the short-term parking garage, and an updated PDX station on MAX Red Line opens this Sunday, Oct. 22. More details coming next week!

National Disability Awareness Month: Advancing Access & Equity.
Honoring National Disability Employment Awareness Month
The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.
Since 1962, the movement has dropped the word “physically” from its title to include individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week and christened the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. However, there continue to be barriers to employment for people with disabilities and, across all age groups, persons with disabilities were much less likely to be employed than those with no disabilities. Our PDX People values include creating a working environment that's inclusive and welcoming, so we hope you'll take some time to learn about accessibility in the workplace.
Our partners at Relay Resources shared some great Instagram reels on relevant topics, including this video from Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jennifer Camota Luebke on the biggest barrier to including people with disabilities at work.
• The PDX employee website has training and resources for respectful service.
• The Port of Portland’s SOAR (Support, Opportunities, Advocacy and Resources) for Employees with Disabilities resource group shared this article on success stories of autistic employees and the companies that employ them.
