Join us for lots of new events this week in 308 GH! Arabic Conversation Hour on Tuesdays 12-1, French crêpes and easy dance lesson Wednesday 1-2, Japanese Karaoke Friday 3-5:30, and more: check out the whole schedule here. Last week, there was a big celebration to begin the Year of the Snake, the first English Conversation Hour of the semester drew lots of people for chat and pizza, and Monday saw the start of Russian and Portuguese Conversation Hours. All events are free and speakers and learners at all levels are welcome!
Mother Language Day is coming up: a great time to celebrate all the languages we speak and learn at UIC! Save the date: Wednesday, February 26, 12:30-2:00 in 308 Grant Hall. Everyone in the UIC Community is welcome.
Your language(s) to help others: The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has created Red cards in many languages with the below information. People can print their own and give them to family, friends, co-workers. Please take a look at the Red cards and note if they have a card in a language you speak/write. If they do not, please contact lclc@uic.edu and provide a translation into that language. We can create templates for these languages and make them available to all LCSL staff and faculty to pass on/print out. (As of today, the ILRC isn’t allowing downloads, so all languages are needed).
Feel free to pass on this information to anyone who might be able to contribute some of the (many) missing languages, from Yoruba to Quechua to Tamil. If you know of another local group doing the same thing, please let us all know.
