Growing Synthetic Biology: Nature and Technology at Scale

On Thursday, January 19, at 12 noon1 p.m. in the Curtis Hall Multipurpose Room or on Zoom, join us for a lecture with Christina Agapakis, synthetic biologist, artist, and Creative Director of Ginkgo Bioworks. Although synthetic biology holds great promise, the field continues to be plagued by one major question: will it scale? What would new visions for distributed manufacturing offer this emerging field and the relationship between nature and technology? Dive into these questions and more; free pizza will be served!

Students and Student Organizations can submit events to JumboLife! Add your event by Thursday at 12 noon each week, and we'll include it in the Jumbo Digest on Sunday.

Announcements and Updates

Nominate a Senior to Be This Year's Wendell Phillips Speaker

Wendell Phillips was a 19th-century attorney, orator, abolitionist, and advocate for women's and Native People's rights. The Wendell Phillips Address is intended to deliver a message to inspire the graduating class and all who are gathered to reflect on how a Tufts education, and specifically the experiences of the graduating senior class, might help make the world a better place through constructive civic engagement. Faculty, staff, and students may nominate seniors to apply to be the Wendell Phillips Speaker, and seniors many self-nominate. All nominated students will be invited to submit an application, including a letter of application, a resume of leadership and service activities, and a recorded speech. You can nominate a student by Monday, January 23, at 5 p.m. and find more information on the University Chaplaincy website. Please contact program manager Nora Bond with any questions.
