Doreen Champaco holding her GOAT award.
No Kidding, Doreen Champaco is the G.O.A.T.
This quarter, we had the privilege of honoring Doreen Champaco with the prestigious G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) Award for her exceptional and ongoing contributions to PDX People and customer experience.
Doreen began her journey at PDX with the SP+ employee parking team, where her warmth and dedication quickly stood out. Several years ago, she transitioned to the Lost and Found Team – a role that proved to be a perfect match for her calm, compassionate presence and outstanding customer service skills. Whether reuniting passengers with lost items or offering reassurance during stressful moments, Doreen has consistently gone above and beyond. It's no surprise that she's been a regular nominee for the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards.
In a heartfelt moment at the event, Doreen accepted her award in front of the entire Lost and Found team, who were also recognized with a team award. It was a fitting celebration of the excellence and positive culture that Doreen has helped foster.
As Doreen prepares to return home to Guam, we are filled with gratitude for the lasting impact she has made. Her legacy of service and kindness will remain a part of PDX long after her departure. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Doreen: You truly are the G.O.A.T.

What's New with PDX Next: Construction Wall Reconfiguration
D/E Construction Wall: Through January 2026, a new construction wall configuration will be in place near the D/E security checkpoint. The temporary construction walls will shift overnight between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday, July 21, and Tuesday, July 22, if needed. During these times, the D/E security bypass hallway and the Known Crewmember Lane will be closed except to emergency responders. Employees exiting the sterile area should use the Concourse Connector instead of the bypass doors to reduce congestion in the area.

PDX Passengers React to New TSA Shoe Policy
What used to be a perk of TSA PreCheck is now available to everyone you're no longer required to take your shoes off at security checkpoints. TSA implemented the "shoes off" rule in 2006 and, since then, technology has improved to the point where the Department of Homeland Security determined shoe removal is no longer necessary. PDX passengers who spoke with KPTV seemed delighted with the change and the potential for faster lines. The next time you travel, you can leave your shoes (and belts and light jackets) on and your electronics and liquids in your bag by signing up for PreCheck.

PDX Moves Up Travel + Leisure List
The awards for PDX just keep coming! After landing at No. 10 in 2024, we’re back on our way to the top, coming in at No. 2 on the 2025 Travel + Leisure Best Domestic Airports list.
These awards highlight airports that balance efficiency with comfort, offering streamlined security and intuitive wayfinding along with ample seating, natural light, and quiet zones. PDX, they note, is a good example of the little things that make an airport great. As a reader shared, "There’s usually some live music in the concourse, good food and drink options if you have time, [and] easy access to downtown via the light rail station at the airport." Behind all of that is the heart of PDX – our people – who travelers consistently call out for exceptional service.

Save Lives, Give Blood
Want to take home a $10 gift card to Loyal Legion? Just sign up for the Delta Air Lines' blood drive this Wednesday, July 16, happening pre-security on the mezzanine level at PDX. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets, and your blood donation helps to ensure there's enough supply for all patients who need it. It costs nothing but your time, and your donation is a gift that can help up to three people. Schedule your appointment online or call the American Red Cross at 1.800.RED.CROSS.

Oven and Shaker Honored for Capturing the Essence of Portland
Airport concessions can often feel bland and homogenous, but at PDX, we celebrate the spirit of our region. That commitment is reflected in two recent awards for Oven and Shaker: Airports Council International North America’s Best New Food and Beverage Full-Service Concept, and the Airport Food and Beverage + Hospitality Award for Best Representing Sense of Place. Both awards showcase Oven and Shaker’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences while reflecting the tastes and culture of our community. Congrats to the team for capturing the soul of our city and the personality of PDX!

The Port of Portland's Justin Marasco shared these photos of Cathay Pacific Cargo taking off during golden hour. He also shared a fun fact: the wingspan of this Boeing 747-8F (which is an impressive 225 feet!) exceeds allowable wingspan on the east end of Taxiway C, which is why it crosses over Runway 28L to continue taxiing on Taxiway B.
