Chalk Art Symposium
Registration is now open for the 4th annual Chalk Art Symposium, to be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025. No need to be creatively inclined! The symposium is a way to feature the work of student researchers, scholars, and musicians through non-traditional means. We have partnered with Grand Valley State University Alumna and chalk artist, Emily Miller, '14 and '20, who worked with students to translate research from traditional posters and oral talks to the sidewalk. Registration closes on Friday, September 12, 2025, by 11:59 p.m.

Course Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE) Programs*
*These programs will be scheduled based on participant interest and registration. E-mail Anna Hammersmith to participate, or for additional information.
|
- CUREs 101, fourth week of September, date TBD. CUREs 101 will focus on (1) what are CUREs and benefits for students, (2) what CUREs might look like across disciplines, and (3) getting started in design and implementation of CUREs.
-
CUREs 201, second week of October, date TBD. CUREs 201 will dive deeper into developing a CURE by engaging with topics such as (1) balancing a CURE-based project with course content, (2) appropriate projects and workload for students as well as the faculty member, and (3) ways for students to disseminate their work.
-
Designing a Mini-CURE: How to Embed Small-Scale Research Experiences into Courses, fourth week of October, date TBD. This session on Mini-CUREs will explore how faculty can build a CURE, but in a smaller format. Constructing a CURE is time consuming and sometimes can take semesters to build. This session will offer practical advice on crafting a Mini-CURE.
-
Embedding Reflective Assignments in CUREs, second week of November, date TBD. This session will engage with the question of what reflective assignments are appropriate in a CURE. One central tenet of CUREs is that students engage in active and critical reflection on their experience as well as their own performance. Reflection can take many forms based on the type of CURE project and the discipline. This session will offer conversation and practical examples about building reflective elements into CUREs.
