Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to announce that on September 1, UM-Dearborn will be launching a new ombuds service for non-bargained-for staff. The Office of the Staff Ombuds will offer support to resolve concerns and navigate university programs and resources. Employees in the office are trained professionals with institutional knowledge who will listen to staff concerns, explore options for resolution, help staff succeed, and promote a civil and positive working environment.
Our university currently has student ombuds and faculty ombuds programs, and this new staff program will further expand this confidential service. Facilitated by the U-M Ann Arbor ombuds program, this expanded service aligns with the university’s strategic goals to create a more fair, equitable, and inclusive workplace and will help support our diverse community.
The new program will be offered to U-M Dearborn staff on an as-needed basis. Up to ten appointments per month will be available for staff members who are not covered under a bargaining agreement. Appointments will be held via Zoom or phone, or when requested, at the U-M Ann Arbor office.
Staff members are critically important to our university and the success of our students, and I’m pleased that the university will now offer this new service. You can find more information about the ombuds program at staffombuds.umich.edu or by emailing StaffOmbuds@umich.edu.
