Message from the President

Greetings friend, and welcome to the November Comfort Connection!
I listened to a previous caregiver of Comforts of Home – Care and good friend of mine, Zofia Dove, share the following story.
She said a friend came to her asking for advice. She asked what she should do with her mother who has dementia. Zofia’s reply to her friend was, “How about if you try being with her, instead of doing for her?” She suggested sitting next to her and holding her hand and just being with her, while they perhaps listened to music or watched a program on TV.
A few days later, this friend gave her the following feedback: “I did it!! I just decided to be with my mom and spend time with her!! And my mom told me how much she loved that moment!” Wow! That was a beautiful and insightful bit of advice from a friend.
Zofia has countless testimonies of the power of human touch after spending over 30 years caring for patients in hospital and other settings. The way in which people touch each other communicates so much. Touch could be an expression of love, or the same action could communicate distaste; it’s all in the way the touch is given. We transfer emotions from one person to another in how we touch. As caregivers we have to be so careful. Our client can tell instantly if you are there from duty, or if you genuinely enjoy caring for her.
Zofia Dove is a powerful public global speaker, drawing lessons from everyday life and her previous experience. Her unique lighthearted approach to serious mental health issues uplifts the hearts of many in these turbulent times. She is inspiring, energizing, and can make the world laugh!
If you know of or are part of a group that would like a presenter, I encourage you to contact Zofia yourself and see how she could benefit your group.
Go out and touch someone today with a message of hope and love.
Blessings,

Joke of the Month

An elderly couple was celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired. Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered. They found the old desk they'd shared, where Jerry had carved "I love you, Sally."
On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armoured car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up and, not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money - fifty thousand dollars!
Jerry said: "We've got to give it back."
Sally said: "Finders keepers." She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.
The next day, two police officers, who were canvassing the neighbourhood looking for the money, knocked on their door. "Pardon me, did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armoured car yesterday?"
Sally said: "No."
Jerry said: "She’s lying. She hid it up in the attic."
Sally said: "Don't believe him, he’s getting senile."
The agents turned to Jerry and began to question him.
One said: "Tell us the story from the beginning."
Jerry said: "Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday .."
The first police officer turned to his partner and said: "Let’s get out of here."
