DHIN Newsletter | Issue 41, May 2022
Dear ,
Hello to all members of the DHIN and welcome to the new members who have joined the community in the last month. I have just two important things I would like to draw your attention to this month.
The first is to encourage all early career researchers and mentors of early career researchers and postgraduate candidates to consider submitting an abstract to the first Emerging Researchers in Health Informatics (ERHIC) Symposium, which will be hosted at Macquarie University and supported by DHIN. It is likely that there will be support for travel for ECRs including postgraduate students, so don’t let distance discourage you from sending in an abstract.
Our amazing ECR group is also presenting a webinar on how to respond to reviewers. Designed for ECRs who conduct digital health research, it will likely be of value to anyone who wants to upskill in the area. As someone who has held a bunch of editorial roles and reviewed hundreds of manuscripts for more than seventy different journals and conferences myself, I can attest to the value of a good response to reviewers and how often I see it done poorly.
As I do each newsletter, I would also encourage you to log in to the DHIN website and update your profile. This is the best way for people to find you, and for you to find them. As we get closer to a major overhaul of the website and membership information, this will improve how we help you find new collaborators, funding opportunities, and connect with all things digital health.
Best wishes,
Adam
Associate Professor Adam Dunn

PhD researcher finds a gap in the mobile app market and aims to conceptualise a new innovative social anxiety app
PhD student, Trent Hammond, is aiming to conceptualise an innovative psycho-educational social anxiety app which has the potential to optimise treatment pathways and improve knowledge regarding social anxiety. The first study found that of the 1,043 apps identified by search term, only 12 were psycho-educational and were downloaded and evaluated, suggesting that app store search algorithms need to be improved. In study 2, Trent ran focus groups with allied health professionals to understand their needs and wants, and to identify problems and barriers to mobile app use. Study 3 in 2023 will involve holding an anonymous online discussion board to uncover what people with social anxiety think about new ‘mock’ app designs and features.
