Spotlight: Cancer and blood disorders hospitalist program |
Dedicated board-certified hematology/oncology hospitalists are on-call from Children’s Minnesota’s cancer and blood disorders hospitalist program to quickly provide the best care for patients. The team includes Program Director Patrick Basile, MD, Wenliang (Will) Geng, MD, Michelle Manalang, MD, Sharmila Raghunandan, DO, and Julie Anne Blabolil, APRN, CPNP-PC.
“There has been a transition in the field of hematology/oncology to use hospitalists during day and night shifts, but in many facilities these roles are filled by general pediatricians,” said Dr. Basile. “Our program is unique with around-the-clock, board-certified hem/onc hospitalists that can respond quickly to our high-risk patients with cancer and blood disorders. Even new patients can be seen by one of our hem/onc specialists immediately.”
The on-call hospitalist also takes calls from hospital-based and emergency department providers in addition to other health care providers with hematology or oncology questions that arise 24/7 through the Children's Minnesota Physician Access call line.
