Heartwarming Moments During Record Snow Fall
The recent winter storm set records with the most snow Portland has seen since 1943. These unprecedented conditions meant many PDX People worked around the clock to ensure the airport stayed open and operational, taking extraordinary steps for colleagues and travelers alike.
We'd like to highlight these extraordinary efforts. If you have a story about a team or an individual who went above and beyond during the recent snow event, email PDX People Communications with a description of what they did. Make sure to include names, companies and any other important details, including photos.
We'll highlight your stories in the next PDX People newsletter and on digital signage, and all submissions will also be entered as nominees for the PDX People Customer Service Awards

What's New with PDX Next: February Forum and Bag Road
February Forum: If you missed the February PDX Next forum, you can watch the recording and catch up on all the behind-the-scenes details including what exactly the overhead work in the ticket lobby is all about, work in and around baggage claim, ongoing work behind the walls in the western expansion and much more.
Main Bag Road: On main bag road near bag carousel 9, there will be a short distance where a forklift hauling demolition materials will travel against the flow of traffic. A spotter will be present during these times and will yield to tug traffic. This work will continue through Monday, April 3.
Baggage Claim: As you likely know, north baggage claim is undergoing noticeable changes as we work on upgrades. On Tuesday, March 7, oversized bag door 10 closes permanently. A temporary wall will go up near carousel 10 starting Tuesday, March 7, and there are measures in place to address any potential impacts to the carousel. On Wednesday, March 8, and Thursday, March 9, expect to hear and see demolition activities outside of baggage claim on the north end.
Ticket Lobby: There's a lot of action in the ticketing area this month. Impacts to expect include overnight demolition above the central ticket counters (March 6 - 31); overnight work overhead near the north near ticket counters and Portland Coffee Roasters March 6 - 9); daytime work on scissor lifts by the north elevators and D/E overflow queue (March 6 - 13); and daytime welding work in the central area that impacts queue areas for nearby ticket counters (March 6 - 13).
Monitor Replacement: Today (Monday, March 6) through Friday, March 17, you'll see workers replacing common use monitors, including flight information display screens (FIDS), gate podiums, baggage makeup units and visual paging. When FIDS locations are without screens, signage will be in place with QR codes and links to direct travelers to flypdx.com.

PDX Receives $6 Million for Major Energy Efficiency Upgrades
Last week, members of the Oregon Congressional delegation announced a $6 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant award to add a ground source heat pump system at PDX. The new system will help the airport reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and reduce the energy required to heat and cool PDX by 83%. The grant is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s FY2023 Airport Terminal Program and follows $18.4 million awarded to the Port in 2022 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, bringing total federal funding for the upgrades to $24.4 million.

March is Women's
History Month
The month of March is for and about women as we celebrate both Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8. The month and the day increase consciousness and knowledge of the contributions of women, and celebrate not only how they shaped history, but also how they continue to shape history.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8, 1980, as National Women’s History Week, and in 1987, Congress designated March as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.
You can celebrate with the PDX People community by wearing purple for International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8, and heading to Juliett on Tuesday, March 21, for snacks, mocktails, music and to learn about women in aviation. Take moment to read more about this month and the outstanding women working right here at PDX
