PARIS FOR SPRING BREAK INFORMATION SESSIONS
Professor Lee Huebner is holding information sessions for his course, “Globalization and the Media" (SMPA 3195) and the Spring Break Paris Seminar.
Information sessions will be held in the SMPA building in room 511 from 6 – 7 pm on the following dates:
  • Tuesday, September 10
  • Monday, September 23
Applications for the class must be submitted through the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences by October 15. Successful applicants will be enrolled into the class.

SMPA TRANSFER APPLICATION OPEN
Spread the word! GW students in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) who are at least a sophomore are eligible to apply to either SMPA major up to two times. An information session will be held on Monday, September 16 in room 406A of the SMPA building. APPLY FOR THE MANHEIM-STERLING UNDERGRADUATE RESERACH PRIZE 
The Manheim-Sterling Undergraduate Research Prize is designed to support and encourage outstanding mentored undergraduate research and creative work. SMPA awards two prizes each academic year, one for a Political Communication major and one for a Journalism and Mass Communication major. The 2018-19 Manheim-Sterling Prize Recipients were Grant Sobetski and Jack Nassetta. The application deadline is Tuesday, October 15 at 11:59 pm.

Hunter Ihrman, PCM ‘21 was sworn in as the Confidential Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Public Affairs. He is also the Vice Chair of the GW College Republicans.
David Karpf's bedbug saga continues! Recently, Karpf made a joke comparing New York Times columnist Bret Stephens to a bedbug on Twitter. Stephens responded in a column Friday comparing Karpf to a Nazi propagandist. Karpf wrote a response in Esquire about the pitfalls of using positions of media influence for personal grievances. The DCist, The Washington Post, and Inside Higher Ed picked up additional coverage of the story.

IMMIGRATION & THE UNDOCUMENTED FOOD SYSTEM: AN EVENING WITH DOLORES HUERTA & JOSÉ ANDRÉS 
Humanitarian, world-renowned chef, and current GW course instructor José Andrés will team up with labor organizer Dolores Huerta to discuss the complex - and often contentious - issues surrounding immigration and the undocumented food system in the U.S. The conversation between Dolores Huerta and José Andrés will be moderated by SMPA Professor Dr. Imani Cheers. Afterwards, students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater community will be able to ask questions in a Q&A. This lecture is part of the World on a Plate course designed by José Andrés at the George Washington University.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HONORS CLIMATE ACTIVIST GRETA THUNBERG
After two weeks of sailing across the Atlantic, Greta Thunberg who is just 16 will visit GW before speaking at the UN Climate Action Summit later this month. Her fierce advocacy in the fight against climate change has made her Amnesty International’s 2019 Ambassador of Conscience. Greta and fellow youth climate activists will take the stage to share their message at the award ceremony honoring Greta Thunberg and the #FridaysForFuture movement. Special guest speakers will include Sophia Bush and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Tickets are free for the GW community but must be claimed in-person at the Lisner Box Office (Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm) using a valid GWID. Limit one ticket per ID.
