Welcome back to the MUDEC Newsletter! A lot has happened since our last one. The base students are spending their week in Rome, so let's take a look at some of the fun activities they have done.
The students are taking two classes this summer. HST 360 is devoted to study of empires, and FST 201 is the study of European Cinema. Many European films have been based on the Roman Empire. The students have been able to immerse themselves in Italian culture and experience some amazing things this week. They have a week full of learning and getting to experience everything that Rome has to offer.
Students toured the Esposizione Universale Roma ( EUR) district, walked to the Colosseum, and visited the Museo dell’Ara Pacis and the Massimo Museum. They learned how to make homemade pasta, and even got to watch a European film at an outdoor screening area.
Students were also honored to be part of a cool and important project. The “Tree of Identities” collaborative art project consists of individually sculpted clay leaves that are put together into a mosaic of a tree in various communities. The goal of it is to practice mindfulness, connect community members, and increase the beauty of the various neighborhoods. This allowed our students to better connect to neighborhoods in Rome and have a deeper understanding of their culture.
