MEMBER RELATIONS COMMITTEE UPDATE:

I hope everyone is enjoying what are often seen as the last days of summer. We’ve had a wonderful summer to date with a mix of terrific activities which we hope you have enjoyed. 

This is our second monthly Board Chair overview, focused on our Member Relations Committee.

Our Member Relations Committee’s role in focused on keeping our Bayview community vibrant. The Committee works closely with the Senior Management Team, ensuring activities, programs, and services meet the needs and expectations of all our members. Our goal is simple: to make sure every member has the best possible experience at Bayview.

The committee is made up of Gord Holbrook, Martin Braun, Jason Havelock, Phillip Yu, and Ingrid Versnel, a diverse group representing all parts of our membership.  This year, the committee is focused on developing a holistic and welcoming onboarding program for new members.

Our New Member Onboarding Program will ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for new club members. It begins with a personalized welcome message, essential information about the club's rules, membership privileges, and access to key resources like the club website and mobile app. New members are introduced to the club through a scheduled tour, which includes meeting key staff members.

The program emphasizes orientation sessions for specific activities like golf, tennis, and fitness, offering assessments, introductory sessions, and complimentary services to help new members get acquainted with these areas. Dining at the club is introduced with a reserved meal and information on dining options and catering services.

New members play a critical role in Bayview’s ongoing success. To understand the significance, in the past nine months, 31 members opted to cancel their golf activities, 12 members took a leave of absence and we sadly lost 10 members. Additionally, 95 members, (approximately 40 families) resigned from the club. Altogether, these changes resulted in a total of 204 membership status adjustments during this period. Additionally, 4 members converted to Honorary or Legacy status, and 7 members transitioned to Senior House status. 

During this same period, 37 members joined or increased their involvement in the club’s activities, with 20 new families joining as golf members and 16 new families joining under Social & Sports (S&S) membership. Moreover, 3 families upgraded from Trial S&S to Full S&S membership. We also had 18 members move to active golf status, either by joining as new participants or advancing on the transfer list.

As you can see, the addition of new members is critical to offsetting our normative attrition and contribute to support a robust, diverse membership base. As a result, member referrals are critical to our membership’s growth and financial stability. When you refer someone to Bayview, you are helping to build the Bayview family. It helps us bring in new members who are a great fit, and engaged in building deeper connections.  Your support in recommending new members is not just about growing our numbers; it’s the future of Bayview as a thriving, welcoming place for everyone.
