Sports Media Club to meet on Sept. 11: The first meeting of the new Sports Media Club will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Stauffer-Flint Hall, room 100. JMC alum Brian Hanni, Voice of the Jayhawks since 2016, will be the featured speaker. Pizza will be provided.
Technology Committee begins bimonthly meetings meetings: The Technology Committee will meet the first and third Wednesday of each month beginning Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to noon in Stauffer-Flint Hall, room 312.

Students in last spring’s JMC 440 course (Advanced Digital Marketing, Communications, Advertising and Public Relations) created feature videos that will play through the Native Fashion Exhibition in the Spencer Museum of Art. The exhibition will run from Sept. 1 until Jan. 5.

You're Invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Carole Jackson Moreno Resource Center on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 1-2:30 p.m. The complete remodel of the Resource Center was made possible by the generosity of alum Carole Jackson Moreno, who has supported the JMC School for two decades. Jackson Moreno will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and deliver brief remarks along with Dean Ann Brill.

John Bremner's chair donated to JMC School: Evie Lazzarino donated John and Mary Bremner’s antique Irish rocker (pictured) to the Bremner Editing Center, where it joins Bremner’s desk and other mementoes.
Volunteers needed: Register here to speak at the KSPA 2024 KU Fall Conference on Oct. 2. A variety of speakers and sessions will be part of the event, and members of the KSPA board of directors and Dean Ann Brill will welcome all participants to start the day.

Professor Stephen Wolgast appeared on "Inside Kansas Politics" on KSNT News to discuss the Marion County Register raid. Wolgast appears starting at 7:58 in the video.
Assistant Professor Dr. Yunwen Wang was the lead author on the paper titled, "Mpox Discourse on Twitter by Sexual Minority Men and Gender-Diverse Individuals: Infodemiological Study Using BERTopic,” published in JMIR Public Health and Surveillance.
Assistant Professor Dr. Yunwen Wang was the lead author on the paper titled, "From virus to viral: content analysis of HIV-related Twitter messages among young men in the U.S.” published in BMC Digital Health.
Assistant Professor Steve Bien-Aimé and doctoral candidate Hanbo Liu contributed to the essay “Media coverage of the Olympic refugee team contributes to sportswashing” in ‘Olympic and Paralympic Analysis 2024 – Mega events, media and the politics of the sport.’
Fernanda Silva (j’23, MSJ), Professor Hyunjin Seo, Annalise Baines (j’23, Ph.D.), and Ph.D. students Macy Burkett, Rim Chaif, and Nazra Izhar are co-authors of a research paper, “Facebook Social Support Groups on Diabetes: A Comparative Analysis of the Brazilian and U.S. Experience,” which has been accepted for publication in the International Communication Research Journal.
Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor Babara Bichelmeyer has appointed Professor Mugur Geana as a KU IRISE Faculty and Staff Fellow. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the IRISE Fellows will address the scholarship of character formation and the importance of organizations embracing shared values to strengthen the community where faculty, staff, and students live, learn, and work.
The Center for Excellence in Health Communication to Underserved Populations (CEHCUP) is a research and intervention development partner in a recently funded Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Engagement Capacity Building project to improve aging-related health outcomes and increase engagement of older women with criminal-legal system involvement.

Jonathan Shorman to serve as a Fall 2024 Dole Fellow: KU alumnus and lead political reporter of the Kansas City Star Jonathan Shorman will serve as a Fall 2024 Dole Fellow. Shorman covers politics and government in both Kansas and Missouri. He previously reported from the Kansas Statehouse for the Star and Wichita Eagle. His series, “Election 24,” will focus on upcoming elections in Kansas and throughout the nation. Shorman’s series will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesdays on Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23. Session topics and panelists are forthcoming.
