One can view holiness and sainthood when one witnesses a life spent on the other person and not the self.
This can certainly be said of St. Josephine Vannini. Born in Rome in 1859 she lost her parents at the age of three. Josephine and her siblings were left orphaned. At the age of 22 she heard God’s call to the religious life while at an orphanage run by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul. She became a sister and became Mother Superior of a new order called the Daughters of St. Camillus, founded in 1909. When Josephine passed away in 1911 the order had 156 sisters. Their mission was the pure and simple physical and spiritual care of the sick, exercised at home as in hospitals, leprosariums, and nursing homes, both in European rehabilitation centers and in mission countries in the Americas. We celebrate St. Josephine on February 23rd. Perhaps learn more about her and attend Mass on February 23rd to ask for her intercessions for you and your families.
We are fortunate to have a volunteer at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska who emulates the virtues of St. Josephine Vannini. Michelle Primavera is a dedicated volunteer at St. Gianna Women’s Homes. She volunteers one night per week and is a known resource and consultant for the women, kids, sisters and staff at St. Gianna’s for healthcare issues. She has helped women find the help they need in regard to breathing, asthma, and other health-related issues. We are blessed by Michelle’s presence and are grateful to God for her sharing her life with ours so that women and children can be helped!

It costs nearly $16,000/year to provide a secure place at St. Gianna’s for a woman and her children…..which means a simple contribution of $45 will provide one night of safety for a mother and her children at St. Gianna’s.
