Hi everybody! My name is Alexandria Bobbitt and I am currently a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Energy Studies. Originally I am from Matteson, IL, but I’ve made a temporary home in Howard Hall.
At Notre Dame, I am involved in a variety of activities and events. Within my dorm Howard, I was one of the people in charge of planning Howard’s signature event, Totter for Water, last fall semester. The event was an amazing experience and it was a lot of fun raising money for clean water in Ecuador and watching people go up and down on the teeter totter. If you have not seen the event, I highly recommend you to come out and have fun with us. The event is usually held the week of the first or second home football game. Another reason this event resonated with me was because the money raised goes to my club Engineers Without Borders (EWB). Engineers Without Borders strive to bring clean water and improve the landscape of our partner community in Ecuador. I have been part of the club since my freshman year and I have loved every minute of it. I am also one of the student managers at the South Dining Hall. I have been working at the dining hall since my freshman year and became a manager last semester. Working at the dining hall can be tough, but it is very rewarding and I have made a lot of friends through this job. I have also had the opportunity to study abroad the summer after my freshman year. I did the engineering study abroad program in London and it was an amazing experience. If you are debating going abroad, I highly recommend it. It is an opportunity and experience that may never come again and you should go for it.
Within Galvin, I am a member of the Galvin Committee as one of co-leads for the large events committee. Basically, I am one of the main people planning the Gormal for the spring. Last year was my first year planning the Gormal and it was a lot of work. Discussing catering, decorations, activities, and ordering a photo booth were just some of the responsibilities I had when planning this event. I am extremely grateful to the rest of the committee for their help in planning this event and I encourage anyone who wants to join the committee to please do so. I am so grateful to Galvin for all the opportunities they have given me. Through Galvin, I have made lifelong friends and gained skills I might not have had the opportunity to develop. Galvin has always been a welcoming environment for me at Notre Dame and I hope that never changes.
