Dear students,
We are happy to share the news that Alyssa Baker has started today as the Associate Dean for SMFA Student Affairs.
In her role, Alyssa will provide overall direction and leadership at a strategic and policy planning level for the graduate and undergraduate student experience on our campus. She and her four person team will ensure an immersive and positive experience for all students, and she will assist with individual student support while working closely with colleagues within Student Affairs.
With more than 20 years of experience, Alyssa has distinguished herself at the intersection of higher education and the arts. During her 14 years at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts she served in leadership roles in Student Services serving 1,200 students and producing events such as Orientation, Admitted Students Days, and Open Houses. After her time at BU she spent three years as the Senior Associate Director of Graduate Admissions at Lesley University.
Most recently, Alyssa was the Director of Graduate Affairs within Boston University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. In this role she served as the Title IX coordinator and the designated resource on academic integrity. She also devised and ran large scale events such as Orientation and the hooding ceremonies for graduating doctoral students.
Alyssa holds a Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, both from Boston University.
Away from the office, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family, seeing live music, cooking with friends, and doing yoga. She also loves discovering and learning about new artists and designers.
We want to thank the SMFA Student Affairs team who have done a fantastic job this academic year: Associate Director Stephen Green, Assistant Director Mayiah Gamble-Rivers, Residential Life Coordinator Victoria Medeiros, and Student Services Coordinator Colin Buckley.
