Verla Stanley (she/her) with Latrelle's Galley
Verla Stanley Serves Coffee with Room for Compassion
Verla Stanley (she/her) with Latrelle's Galley was nominated by Kristin, a PDX traveler:
"I was traveling from PDX and stopped for coffee and water at Stumptown. I was in the midst of an allergy attack that had my eyes watering. As I walked up to order, Verla took one look at me and kindly asked, 'Do you need a hug?' I thanked her for her kindness and explained that it was allergies that had my eyes watering, not distress. We had a nice chat while she and a co-worker prepared my coffee, and I went on with my travels.
Her kindness and care have stayed with me, and I wanted to let her employer know how much that small comment has stayed with me and how much I appreciate her going above and beyond to show compassion to Stumptown's customers. I hope you will share my gratitude with her."

What's New with PDX Next: Update on Opening, Baggage Claim and Ticket Lobby
Main Terminal Opening Update: Doing stuff you're proud of takes time – sometimes three months longer than you planned. The new spaces at PDX will now open this August. This gives our crew the breathing room to keep the 950 local folks – our family, friends and neighbors – working safely, our main priority.
Baggage Claim: Starting Monday, April 8, through late 2025, carousel 10 will be closed and a temporary wall will be erected around it. United will move to carousel 9 and American will move to carousel 7. Once the temporary wall is up, the carousel 10 area will be part of the construction area in north bag claim, and you can expect periodic noise and vibration from construction activities behind the wall.
Ticket Lobby: Now through Friday, April 19, crews are installing metal panels on the north elevator core. During this work, expect periodic closures of the north elevator and up escalator. These dates are approximate and may change as the work progresses.

A Youtube video titled "PDX and Urban Gleaners Food Donation Partnership"
Urban Gleaners' PDX Partnership Helps Feed the Hungry
Think for a moment about the grab n’ go shelves at any major airport, stocked with fresh premade yogurt parfaits, sandwiches and deli salads. Now think about that food winding up in a compost bin – or worse yet, a landfill – if not sold in time to meet market standards.
Not wanting to see perfectly good food go uneaten, PDX restaurants donate unsold, ready-to-eat food to folks in need, in partnership with local nonprofit Urban Gleaners. Thanks to our waste minimization team's implementation of this program, PDX restaurants have provided sandwiches, salads, parfaits, baked goods and produce to Urban Gleaners' Free Food Markets twice a week since 2013. PDX in Pictures
Did you know that PDX is home to one of United’s oldest aircraft maintenance stations? This week, we're featuring the United building in two ways.
On top, a sunny day marks the military hangar reverting back to commercial operation. It's now a first-class facility for United to perform critical aircraft maintenance and grow skilled aircraft mechanic and related employment, while enhancing the PDX aviation ecosystem and making a deeper commitment to the market. On the bottom, a moody photo courtesy of Brian Burk with the Port of Portland shows the facility in dramatic lighting.
If you have photos of life around PDX, send them to PDX People Communications and we might feature them here!
