Gateway85 Community Improvement District is on a mission to beautify the CID and improve the experiences of every community member and visitor. So far, we have waged a war on unwelcoming barbed wire fences in the district, created miles of sidewalks to improve accessibility, improved safety and curb appeal and lighting along Jimmy Carter Boulevard among hundreds of other projects.
Despite a pandemic, Gateway85 continued to move forward, and we recently posted our 2020 Annual Report, featuring highlights of the significant accomplishments completed throughout the year – from safety, wayfinding, landscaping and beautification to freight and mobility studies. Gateway85 CID invites you to review the report and learn more about the impact we’ve made and will continue to make in the community!

Gateway85 CID is continuously working to improve the accessibility and mobility of our business members and their employees. Our latest project addresses the missing pedestrian connection from the west side of Lucky Shoals Park and provides a pedestrian crosswalk along the park’s entrance drive to the existing sidewalk along the park’s eastern portion.
| |
The existing sidewalk along Lucky Shoals Park’s east side is blocked by a guardrail and leads pedestrians into a turning lane without a safe place to cross. Creating a boardwalk component across Lucky Shoals Creek will resolve this issue and make for safer movement. The sidewalk connection creates a safe path for pedestrians on the park's west side AND businesses located along Jimmy Carter Boulevard to the east. Completion of the project is to be determined, so stay tuned for more updates.

| |
Norcross-based furniture store Georgia Furniture Mart, formerly known as Underpriced Furniture, is one of the area’s largest retailers for affordable furniture. Owner and president Mike Hall started the company in 1986 originally as a waterbed store and has since rebranded the company as a leader in high-quality furniture for low prices. Underpriced Furniture underwent another pivot in 2019, which included a name change, a new logo and store expansions. Now in 2021, Georgia Furniture Mart has been ranked by Furniture Today as one of the top 100 furniture stores in the country!
“We are so grateful to be chosen as one of the industry’s most excellent and reputable retail stores,” said Mike Hall, president and CEO of Georgia Furniture Mart. “As a family-owned and operated business, we are deeply committed to our mission of delivering quality and value, while creating customers for life through our exceptional service. This is a testament to our incredible team, who work every day to make the Georgia Furniture Mart experience one that is fun, energetic, and meets the needs of each and every customer.”
The 92,000 square-foot superstore, located in Gateway85 CID, is accompanied by a 165,000 square foot distribution center in Tucker, Georgia. The distribution center allows them quickly process hundreds of items daily. In fact, their efficiency and wide selection of stylish furnishings also helped them snag a spot in Gwinnett Magazine’s Best of Gwinnett 2021 issue in The Best Furniture Stores category. Gateway85 CID deeply values education and is proud to have one of Georgia’s top-ranking schools, the Greater Atlanta Christian School (GAC), located in our district. The school's remarkable story began in Norcross in 1968 after two failed attempts at opening. In 1968, during a very turbulent time in America, the founders persevered and started a school where the Bible was incorporated into the curriculum and where children of all races could learn together.
Since then, the campus has added the Jim and Becky Combee Elementary Complex, the Student Family Center, the Freeman Aquatic Center and more to its portfolio. Today, GAC is a leader in private school education for its distinguished academic, arts and athletics programs.
“We have built a reputation for excellence at GAC on the belief that every student is unique, made in God’s image,” says GAC President Dr. Scott Harsh. “We are always researching and implementing educational advancements that make each student’s experience better inside and outside of the classroom. We are dedicated to helping them discover and fuel their dreams and intellectual pursuits with experiences and relationships. This a place where your future begins.”
