In this report, we present the 2024 Wisconsin custom rates to facilitate negotiations because many farms rely on custom agricultural services. These rates are based on the 2024 Wisconsin Custom Rate Survey of Wisconsin farmers, farm managers and custom operators.

The Wisconsin Cover Crop Data Network team is testing out a new cover crop scenario tool. Using information provided by farmers from across the state, the tool provides examples of cover crop outcomes with different soils, farm systems, cover crop species, and goals.

With the air quality index between 150-200, there has been a diligent watch on how the recent surge in poor air quality across southern and south-central Wisconsin due to smoke from Canadian wildfires is affecting human life, concerns are also about its impact on corn growth and development. The full extent of the effects is still unknown, current research and observations suggest a mix of potential challenges and benefits for corn crops.

We are at head emergence and full anthesis in much of the winter wheat in the southern third of the state, with anthesis quickly approaching in other parts of the state.
|

Fusarium graminearum is a globally distributed plant pathogen capable of causing the plant diseases known as Fusarium head blight of wheat and small grains and Gibberella ear rot of corn. Under conditions that are favorable for disease, such as warm and wet conditions, the disease can significantly impact yield and grain quality.

SnapPlus V3 is now available for nutrient management planning! Join us for a one-day training on V3 of SnapPlus. We will discuss building a plan from scratch in V3 as well as demonstrate converting a V2 plan into V3. There will also be time to work on plans, and we’ll have SnapPlus developers present to answer questions and troubleshoot.
Three nutrient management CEUs will be available. Registration is free. Please register at least one week in advance of the training you plan to attend so that we can plan for a lunch count.

Join the WiscWeeds Team and UW-Extension on Thursday, June 19 for the 2025 Rock County Farm WiscWeeds Management Plot Tour — a free, hands-on field event hosted at Rock County Farm in Janesville, WI.
This year’s tour will highlight integrated weed management strategies for giant ragweed and waterhemp in corn and soybean production systems. Lunch will be provided following the tour, courtesy of Valent USA. Stay tuned for additional details — we look forward to seeing you in the field!
