Final Thoughts from a Fellow Mom
I have always ended this newsletter with some thoughts about my own experiences with my family to let you know that I am, like you, experiencing the highs and lows of being a mom. The last few weeks have been challenging for me personally, as my own mom is at the last stage of her life. I have been spending a lot of time in New Jersey with her over the past few weeks. She turned 97 on Sept. 6, and we celebrated with a small gathering at my brother’s house. At that time, she was doing okay, but soon thereafter she became ill, and stopped eating. She is at home in a hospital bed, and we have both a full-time caregiver and a hospice nurse helping us. She is happy when she knows I am right there with her holding her hand. This has been a difficult time for me.
On a positive note, my sons Nicholas and Thomas along with Thomas’s fiancé, Victoria, have been visiting their grandmother often, and that means I get to spend time with them, too. Their presence brightens my mom’s day and mine as well. In addition, our Indiana Tech family has been such a blessing for me—so many faculty, staff and students have reached out to offer their prayers. I am so grateful.
I wish you all the best as we welcome the fall season. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your student.
