AI-Responsive Assignments: GW Faculty Showcase |
When: Wednesday, July 29, 10–11 a.m.
Where: Zoom
Are you curious how other GW educators are addressing AI in their classrooms? Join the final meeting of this summer’s Community of Practice: Student Learning in the Age of AI. This cohort of faculty will share creative assignments they’ve developed to be responsive to emerging AI technologies, whether that means integrating AI or reworking assignments to be more AI-resistant. Then, presenters and participants will have a larger conversation about teaching and learning in the age of AI.
RSVP to receive a calendar invitation or join directly at go.gwu.edu/cteaizoom.

It is not too early to register, even though we are still finalizing the schedule. Once you register, we'll send you a calendar invitation to reserve the date.

This summer CTE is hosting two teaching groups: a book group on alternative grading and a community of practice working on (re)designing assignments to be more responsive to AI. Here are some quick reads inspired by those two groups.
|
Curious about alternative grading but not ready to overhaul an entire course? Robert Talbert, a coauthor of Grading for Growth, presents a system for rewarding students for engaging meaningfully in a course that is more equitable than a black box “attendance & participation” grade.
|
This quick read unpacks some of the nuance around how students feel about GenAI, and argues that “skepticism, doubt, and suspicion are reflections of critical thinking.” The authors end with a “try this” reflective assignment that may spark some ideas for your courses.
|
This study surveyed 400+ students from major US universities about their perceptions of AI use. The findings indicate students’ ethical beliefs have a stronger impact on their ethical judgements and AI use in writing than institutional policies. As you prepare for fall, this article can help you reflect on how to curb unethical and unproductive AI use in a way that will resonate with students.
