Teamwork Provides Prompt Problem Solving
When two passengers had troubled claiming their lost luggage, Raina Babcock (she/her) with ABM, and Port of Portland employees Natalie Summerlin (she/her) and Sean Michael (he/him) stepped up to assist.
They received this note of thanks:
“After our airline notified us that our misdirected bags were finally in Portland, I drove up from Eugene to claim them. When I arrived at PDX, I learned it would be four hours before a representative would be available to release my luggage. Thankfully, I connected with Raina Babcock.
Raina went way above and beyond to assist me with getting my baggage. She contacted airport operations specialist Natalie Summerlin who – along with her supervisor Sean Michael – worked to locate my luggage. After verifying that the bags were mine, I was able to head home just an hour later.
Raina stayed with me the entire time. She was knowledgeable, professional and courteous, as were Natalie and Sean. My daughter’s medications and school laptop were in one of the bags, so it was a huge relief to get those items back.
I wanted to let Raina, Natalie, Sean and their supervisors know how wonderful they were and how appreciative I am for their service.”
Raina, Natalie and Sean were honored at the PDX People Customer Service Awards, where we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. What's New with PDX Next: Noise Updates and Baggage Claim Work
Noise Updates: Starting this week, you might notice noise from demolition work in the former Clocktower Plaza is a little louder than last week and will be most significant on the south side of the ticket lobby. Work hours are the same: daytime work is Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and nighttime work is Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Additionally, there will be demolition work behind the weather walls near Concourse D, and you might experience construction noise where you haven't heard it before. This will be most notable near the D/E checkpoint and by concessions and gates just past the checkpoint.
Baggage Claim Work: Beginning today, you may hear work near carousel 4. There should be minimal impacts to operations other than some noise during daytime work hours. This work will continue through July.

Q&A with Jared Mees of Tender Loving Empire
Tender Loving Empire, which Jared and Brianne Mees founded in 2007, is more than a record label and network of retail stores. The brand has become a home for more than 700 independent artists – including jewelers, ceramicists, clothing designers, food artisans and musicians. In addition to four street stores, Tender Loving Empire now has two locations at PDX: The first, on Concourse D, debuted in 2017, and the second opened on the newly expanded Concourse E in May 2021. We talked to Jared Mees about how their PDX stores turbo-charged their sales – and their broader mission – and what advice he would give to local businesses considering a PDX location.

PDX in Pictures
Exactly 784 days ago, the last transoceanic wide body flight – Delta Air Lines’ nonstop from Amsterdam – arrived at PDX.
After that two-year pause, our airport returned to the international stage last Thursday, as we again welcomed that same Delta PDX-AMS flight, booked with both leisure and business travelers.
This notable return called for a celebration, and the Port of Portland Air Service Development team was on hand to greet departing passengers, crew members and local Delta employees with flowers, treats and lots of smiles.
And this is just the beginning. Over the next 30 days, we’ll launch three more transatlantic flights: Icelandair to Reykjavik (May 10), Condor to Frankfurt (May 13) and – for the first time ever – British Airways’ nonstop, year-round service to London (June 3).
