ALL ABOUT THE OSA

The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make it obe of the most beautiful regions in Costa Rica. Declared "the most biologically intense place on earth" by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the country's premier ecotourism destination. A remote natural wonderland, the Osa Peninsula is home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With much of the Peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest single expanse of a lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area is home to more than 375 species of birds, a quarter of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 5,000 species of vascular plants, many of which are found nowhere else on earth.
WHERE THE OCEAN MEETS THE RAINFOREST

At the foot of the majestic Corcovado National Park are Carate and Matapalo, two beach communities perfectly nestled between the warm Pacific Ocean and the dense tropical rainforest. You will find yourself in a natural corridor where the density of wildlife is greater than anywhere else in the country. You'll stay in beautiful local lodges, giving you the perfect opportunity to experience the great biodiversity that exists here on the Osa. Wake up to see spider monkeys swinging in the fruit trees or exotic birds flying overhead in vibrant colours. Wherever you look, you’ll see abundant wildlife and incredible scenery.
OSA WEATHER

The Osa Peninsula is quite temperate and rarely experiences extreme high or low temperatures. The temperature seldom drops below 25°C (77°F) in the green season (May to September), and is usually around 30°C (85°F) in the dry season (December to April). October and November are considered the rainiest months (wet season) and because of this travel to and around the Osa can be difficult.

If you’re wondering during which season it’s best to visit, the green season or the dry season, we recommend both for different reasons. In the dry season, there's no rain, which is great if you want to spend most of your time on the beach or escape the snow and cold back home. However, if you are more interested in seeing wildlife, you will enjoy the green season. That’s when the turtles return and red-eye tree frogs are easier to spot. As for the weather during the green season, you can compare it to spring, where mornings are usually sunny with some showers here and there. The great thing about the rain here is that it’s nice and warm and gives you a great excuse to completely rest and relax.
