Magness-Potter Community Center
The Salvation Army Magness-Potter Community Center coordinates a spectrum of collaborating private and public social service providers offering essential services – from infant-toddler child care to senior citizen activities – to this community of more than 10,000 people. The people served by the Magness-Potter Community Center are economically disadvantaged families and at-risk youth living in ZIP code 37207. In addition to coordinating and collaborating with outside organizations, Magness-Potter is home to The Salvation Army's Red Shield Kids Club, Life Skills Learning Center and Emergency Services programs.
Red Shield Kids Club
The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Kids Club is an after school and a summer camp program for children 6-12 years old and teens age 13-17. The program is defined by a four course curriculum that includes: computer education, physical fitness, arts and crafts, and nutrition wellness. Daily our counselors work with the children on character building, spiritual development, conflict resolution, healthy lifestyles, money management, manners and etiquette.
Life Skills Learning
The Life Skills Learning Center (LSLC) is an independent living program for individuals and families with a history of unemployment that primarily focuses on soft skills and career development, adult education and English as a second language (ESL). The program is designed to support participants as they gain the necessary skills to impact their long term self-sufficiency.
Emergency Services
Our Emergency Services program provides food, personal care items, and short-term financial help with housing and utilities. The program also provides referrals for other needed social services. Our target population is low income, homeless and individuals/families facing crisis situations who reside in Davidson county and surrounding counties
