Just as a reminder, in addition to securing a hotel room for the TCSA Fall Conference, you will also need to register for the conference itself.  You can do that online here, by printing off the registration form and faxing or mailing it to TCSA, or by phone by calling the office at (615) 532-3767.  By registering ahead of time, TCSA is better equiped to plan for the conference.
The fall conference is an important time as the association is considering its path ahead.  This means finalizing a legislative platform for the 2016 Legislative Session as well as selecting officers for the upcoming year for TCSA and its affiliates.  The association will also be discussing new member services initiatives and the county commissioners are also considering a bylaws change for that affiliate organization.
If you still need to make hotel accommodations you can visit the Embassy Suites webpage at www.murfreesboro.embassysuites.com or call the hotel directly at (615) 890-4464.  The group code you will need is "CSV".  If the Embassy Suites does not have a room available, The Holiday Inn also has a room block for TCSA.  Their number is (615) 751-5300.  The TCSA room block at the Holiday Inn is only reserved until September 22nd, so you will need to book your room soon.
TCSA encourages you to consider attending the Infrastructure Summit on Tuesday, October 6th, held in the same facility as the TCSA Fall Conference and starting with a lunch at 11:30.  To register for this event, simply check a box on the TCSA registration form that you will attend.  There is no additional cost for TCSA members to attend.  Exciting announcements will be made in the coming days about speakers for that event.
The Local Government Insurance Pool is a member owned not for profit insurance pool that serves many counties in Tennessee.  TCSA formed this organization in the early 1980s as a way to help manage the skyrocketing cost of liability and workers compensation coverage.  As a pool, LGIP only charges enough to cover costs of administration and pay claims.  In its 34 year history, LGIP has been managed well and has never had to assess its members as a result of claims exceeding available funds.
One important way LGIP helps keep the cost of insurance low is by helping counties avoid risk in the first place.  County jails tend to be the source of the majority of claims against the county and are therefore one of the best places to start with risk management.  LGIP is currently offering a Jail Liability Seminar that is open to all counties, whether or not they are a part of the pool.  Mayors, Sheriffs and County Commissioners are all encouraged to attend.  The seminar will help you understand how to avoid liability in operating a jail through proper management.  In some cases, a small investment in resources and staffing can avoid costly litigation and huge liability claims in the future.  Three sessions have already been held, but below is a reminder for those scheduled for this week.
September 16th: Clarksville - Montgomery County Office Complex from 9:00am - 12:00pm
September 17th, Dunlap - Citizens Bank Training Facility from 9:00am - 12:00pm
