Be Knowledgeable: Help Keep PDX Safe and Secure
HAWKS (Helping Airport Workers Know Security) is an airport-wide program that creates a more secure environment for everyone at PDX by enlisting the support of all badgeholders as an extra layer of security to observe and report suspicious activity.
By following a few simple security steps, you can help protect everyone. Here are six key things to remember:
Always Display Your Security Badge: Wear your badge above the waist on your outermost garment. This ensures other PDX employees will be able to recognize you and verify you’re permitted to be in the area.
Close the Door: When entering or exiting any restricted area, always make sure the door is fully closed behind you. This prevents unauthorized access and keeps sensitive areas protected.
No Piggybacking: Allowing someone to follow you through secure doors or checkpoints without proper authorization is called "piggybacking." Always confirm that each individual swipes in with their own credentials.
Know the Rules: Stay familiar with security policies so you're prepared for any situation.
Question Suspicious Activity: If you notice something out of the ordinary – like someone in a restricted area without a badge – speak up.
Report It: Even small concerns could be part of a bigger issue. Reporting helps keep PDX secure, so contact the PDX Comm Center at 503.460.4000.
Not only are you an important part of keeping PDX safe and secure, you can win $50 for doing just that! That's right: Pass a challenge play or be nominated and you’ll be entered in a monthly drawing for a $50 Visa gift card.
