October 22, 2019, (New York, NY) – Earlier this evening, New York hosted the 17th Annual Lucie Awards in a gala black-tie ceremony and awards program, at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. The Lucies – the world’s most esteemed photography awards ceremony, honoring the greatest achievements in the field - presented awards ranging from Achievement in Fine Art and Documentary, to excellence in industry support categories, from publishing to advertising.

Jay Maisel received The Lucie Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Stephen Wilkes, photographer, and filmmaker
Stephen Shore received The Lucie Award for Achievement in Fine Art, presented by Sarah Meister, Curator, Department of Photography The Museum of Modern Art
Annie Leibovitz received The Lucie Award for Achievement in Portraiture, presented by Michael Ward Stout, founding partner Stout Thomas & Johnson, President of the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, Founding Member and Co-Chair of the Whitney Photography Committee and Founding Member of the Guggenheim Photography Council.
Ellen Von Unwerth received The Lucie Award for Achievement in Fashion, presented by Coco Rocha, Model, Founder of Coco Rocha Model Camp and co-owner of the Nomad Management Modeling Agency
Maggie Steber received The Lucie Award for Achievement in Photojournalism, presented by Sara Leen, Director of Photography, Emeritus, National Geographic Partners
Edward Burtynsky received The Lucie Award for Achievement in Documentary, presented by Marc Mayer, Strategic Advisor to MOCA Toronto and the former Director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada

The Impact Awards is given to a photographer whose image or body of work has created a difference in a given year.
INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR was presented by Elizabeth Owen, President, AtEdge. The 2019 award and cash prize for International Photographer of the Year go to Mustafa Hassona for his work titled “Palestinian Rights of Return Protests.”

Once again, acclaimed Broadway actor, Alton Fitzgerald White hosted this year’s gala Lucie Awards presentation, on Tuesday, October 22, at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, in New York City. White is most widely known for his record-breaking 4,308 performances as King Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King on Broadway.
The Lucie Awards highlights a week of celebrations hosted by Lucie Foundation, the Lucie Awards’ governing body, and was kicked off on Monday by the IPA Best of Show and Lucie Photo Book Prize and party at Splashlight. The Lucie Technical Awards bookended the week. David Fahey, Fahey/Klein gallery director, and highly respected Los Angeles fine art photography dealer curated the IPA Best of Show Exhibition, which is sponsored by ChromaLuxe and Blazing Editions and hosted by Splashlight. The top 30 finalists of The Lucie Photo Book Prize, a juried competition, had their works displayed. Lucie Foundation bestowed cash prizes upon the two top book prize finalists for their outstanding work.
