All you need to know
All you need to know

Recruit,
Wow, can you believe we will be gathering at King's Park for the Koala Army's March for Creatures Great and Small in just a few days? I'm so excited to see you all! Before we meet, there are a few important things that the humans at AKF HQ have asked me to pass along. Keep reading recruits, and I'll see you soon!
Urban
Sunday is shaping up to be a busy, yet incredibly exciting day! There will be marching bands, stilt-walkers, an array of performers and most importantly, YOU - our Koala Army. To make sure your day runs as smoothly as possible, we've compiled all the important information you'll need to have a fun, safe time while using your voice on behalf of the Koala and all Creatures Great and Small! Please note, this event WILL be filmed and photographed for prosperity purposes.
What to Expect
We will all meet at King's Park from 10am. There will be ample time to mingle with other march-goers, get photos and visit the mobile Save the Koala Shop before we start assembling. Please follow the directions of staff as much as possible during this time!
Once we are assembled and ready, we will hear a rendition of 'Sleep, Dearie, Sleep' from the March's Lone Piper, followed by a minute's silence to pay respects to all the animals we have lost.
Then, we march! Following the route pictured below, we will make our way to Federation Mall in front of Parliament House. The route passes by some of Canberra's most iconic landmarks, so snap those pics on the way!
We plan to arrive at Federation Mall at approximately 12:45pm where there will be some speakers waiting to address the crowd. From there, you are free to disperse and enjoy your afternoon! If you are registered on a coach heading back to Sydney, please be at the Coach pick up point (Parliament House Federation Mall Northbound) by 2:15pm
Parking and Toilets
The best and most accessible parking for The Koala Army's March for Creatures Great and Small is available at the following locations:
All of these carparks are open 24/7 and free of charge. There will be an AKF staff member waiting on the corner of Kings Ave and Parkes Way to direct you across the road to the King's Park congregation point.
Alternatively, you are able to park at Federation Mall and walk back to King's Park if you prefer. Parking at this end is available from the following locations:
  • Parliament House (undercover parking)
  • Queen Victoria Terrace (West Block)
Note East Block will be inaccessible due to road closures for the March.
Who to Ask
If you need help with something on the day, please ask one of the AKF staff in red Australian Koala Foundation hoodies and they will be able to assist. Alternatively, head to our mobile Save The Koala shop parked in King's Park - we will also have a limited number of signs available there if you would like something to carry during the March!
Food and Drink
There is limited food availability at King's Park, so we highly recommend bringing something light that will sustain you until the March concludes. There are a number of cafes near Federation Mall that you can access if you would like something to eat afterwards.
If you can, please bring a refillable water bottle and use the facilities at King's Park before we set off to Federation Mall. Please remember that this is an environmentally-conscious event, so we ask that you take all of your rubbish with you when you depart for the afternoon.
Pooch Plus Ones
The Koala Army's March for Creatures Great and Small is a dog-friendly event, and we encourage all Canberrans to bring their furry companions along for the day, putting their best paw forward for wildlife conservation. Doggy costumes (if tolerated) are highly supported by the AKF!
Plan Your Afternoon
Want to make Sunday the 1st September truly a day to celebrate all wildlife? After The Koala Army's March for Creatures Great and Small has concluded, head over to Palace Electric Cinema for a very special sneak peek of 'The Wildlife Refugees' - a film about Canberra's wildlife first responders, gathered over the past year by director Kim Ramsay. There will be a panel discussion and Q&A session at the conclusion of the sneak peek. Tickets are available HERE.
Remember the Rules of Conduct
We would just like to kindly remind all attendees that The Koala Army's March for Creatures Great and Small is a peaceful, non-violent event. While we are lobbying for change, we want to do so in a way that also celebrates wildlife and highlights the beauty of the bush. We want to show government what human camaraderie can achieve, and how passionate we are about protecting our native flora and fauna.
Please also keep in mind this message from the Commander-in-Chief:
"I know many of you dislike different industries for one reason or another, but I am going to ask that there are no signs with their names. This March is Phase One of the AKF’s mission prior to the next election to educate the Australian public about the threats and cruelty that has been, and continues to be, perpetrated on our natural wonders."
