Tracy Turner-Pain Lands on the Secret to Friendly, Respectful Service
Tracy Turner-Pain with Alaska Airlines was nominated by Zach Funes, also with Alaska Airlines:
"Tracy is always friendly and courteous to our guests in the Alaska Airlines lounges here at PDX, and recently she really went above and beyond to help a passenger in need. The passenger came into our lounge after missing a flight – they looked very confused and needed mobility assistance. The passenger was rebooked for the following morning, but had no wheelchair help and no one was available to pick them up.
Tracy worked with wheelchair agents, Airport Operations and the traveler’s family to make sure they didn't have to spend the night alone in the airport. The next day, Tracy met up with the passenger and their family at the boarding gate to make sure they got on the flight with pre-boarding. The passenger’s family was extremely appreciative of Tracy for her time and commitment to ensure they were properly taken care of. Tracy provided all this help on top of her regular lounge duties. We are truly grateful for the care she shows to everyone around her."

What's New with PDX Next: Process Updates and Concessions News
Opening day – Wednesday, Aug. 14 – is right around the corner. As we approach the big day, we've completed two days of testing with member of the public and we're finishing up the final touches. See you on the terrazzo and under the wooden roof soon!
Process Updates: If you work in an area that handles checking in and inducting oversized baggage and/or animals, please make sure you talk to your leads and PDX Champions about the new processes.
Concessions News: Last Wednesday, July 31, was the last day of operation for Capers, Lardo and Stumptown in their Concourse B/C locations; crews will now install temporary rolling barricades in front of these spots. Look forward to welcoming Capers and Stumptown in their new locations in the coming months!

Behavioral Health Unit Begins PDX Partnership
A quick read through some of the amazing PDX customer service stories shines a light on a tough reality: Sometimes visitors to the airport need more than just a helping hand – they need a crisis clinician and a resource connection.
Thanks to a partnership between Cascadia Health’s Project Respond and the Port of Portland Police Department, we now have three behavioral health experts ready to provide immediate crisis response and assessment, de-escalation, short-term case management and much more. Paula Reese, Marisa Benson and Lisa Stewart are a vital part of our team, staffing the new Behavioral Health Unit at PDX. Read more from Lisa and the rest of the Behavioral Health Unit team.
Another Chance to Save Lives, Give Blood This Summer
The blood drive at PDX earlier this month was a huge success! So many donors lined up that the drive ended before everyone had a chance to participate. Our partners at the Red Cross reported that 17 units were collected!
If you didn't get a chance to donate, there's another drive coming up at Atlantic Aviation on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All presenting donors will receive a $20 Amazon Gift card via email and a Delta and Red Cross co-branded baseball cap. Schedule your appointment at redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code DeltaPDX.
Your Help Needed:
Test Our TSA Queues
This sea of stanchions serves an important purpose: it's key to managing the TSA queues when the new main terminal opens for business.
And the TSA team needs your help to ensure they run smoothly on Aug. 14 and beyond.
So, loosen up your shoelaces and bring a colleague, a bag and your ID to help them get a bit more practice using their new equipment. Stop by any time between noon and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, or Monday, Aug. 12 – we want this to feel like a real TSA queue, so unexpected surges are ideal. Expect to stay about 30 minutes, though more time is welcome. Our one request is that you sign up your group in advance, if possible!
Installing Sanford Biggers’ Sculptures at PDX
If you've been behind the construction walls, you already know the new main terminal is a dazzle for the eyes. Mixed in with the airfield views and shiny new spots to eat and relax are two large-scale sculptures suspended from the ceiling in the Concourse Connector. These pieces are fresh takes on Sanford Biggers' quilt-based works and embody the rich heritage of the Pacific Northwest.
As Biggers shared last November, “I’m thrilled to showcase a large-scale permanent installation as part of PDX. The unique opportunity of this project and its architecture inspires me to consider how I can create an artwork that responds directly to the context of a space that embodies transition, energy, interaction, movement and potential." Check out the installation of two stunning, large-scale sculptures in the brand-new PDX.
PDX in Pictures
Yesterday we held the first PDX People Open House celebration with food, sweets, a photobooth, llamas, prizes and more...all in the big, beautiful new main terminal. Missed the fun or want to do it all again? Join us on Friday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the second celebration!
