UCSB will host a two-day workshop on fellowships (for graduate students and postdocs interested in applying for fellowships) and training grants (for faculty and grant administrators who want to know more about the training grant application process) on December 16 and 17, 2019.  Agenda and registration information can be found here. The workshops will feature grant writing experts, NSF and NIH program directors, and PIs, evaluators and administrators of successful training grants from UCSD and Georgia Tech. The Office of the President has announced the 2019-20 Request for Proposals for the UC-HBCU Initiative. This systemwide initiative is designed to assist UC faculty interested in developing and encouraging efforts to achieve a more inclusive educational environment of excellence. The goal of the UC-HBCU Initiative is to increase the number of scholars from Historically Black Colleges and Universities completing UC academic doctoral programs. UC faculty grants are available to support HBCU students conducting summer research with UC faculty at a UC campus; and also support departmental efforts to facilitate greater faculty collaboration between UC and HBCU institutions and to increase applications from HBCU scholars to UC PhD programs. Again this year, Principal Investigators may include 1/9 summer salary to help support their efforts during the summer(s) in which the projects are active.

This program aims to increase the quantity and quality of minority professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the defense community. This FOA seeks to support research efforts that will contribute to the science and technology (S&T) mission and vision of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps while simultaneously expanding the research capacity of participant institutions and engaging both faculty and students in STEM discovery. This opportunity is not limited. Key areas of interest include basic research related to:
