Spring 2015 on the horizon
Our spring/summer 2015 list is shaping up to be a diverse and ambitious group of titles, of which we are immensley proud. We are happy to share a preview with the release of our seasonal catalogHighlights include:
  • Lens of War edited by J. Matthew Gallman and Gary W. Gallgher. Historians reflect on photographs of the Civil War.
  • The Cruel Country by Judith Ortiz Cofer. Ortiz's long-awaited memoir, a journey deep into the cruel country of bereavement. 
  • The Curious Mister Catesby edited by E. Charles Nelson and David J. Elliott (illustration from the book above).The most comprehensive study to date of English naturalist Mark Catesby, his work, and his continuing impact.
  • To Live and Dine in Dixie by Angela Jill Cooley. How cultural notions contributed to the racial segregation of cafés and restaurants in the American South.
  • The Three Governors Controversy by Charles S. Bullock III, Scott E. Buchanan, and Ronald Keith Gaddie. A rousing account of a watershed event in American politics. 
  • Eighty-Eight Years by Patrick Rael. A fresh look at the demise of slavery in the United States and why it took longer here than anywhere else in the Atlantic world.
  • The Nashville Sound by Paul Hemphill, foreword by Don Cusic. Bringing back into print a classic account of the culture clash in Music City during the 1970s. 
Inside UGA Press
The latest edition of Inside UGA Press is out, chronicling the inner workings of our little publishing family. Inside you will find: profiles of our new advisory council members; a behind-the-scenes look at how the beautifully rendered and meticulously prepared Confederate Odyssey: The George W. Wray Civil War Collection at the Atlanta History Center by Gordon L. Jones came together; development news highlighting our partnership with the Southern Foodways Alliance; author Q&A with Tiyi M. Morris, author of Womanpower Unlimited and the Black Freedom Struggle in Mississippi; the announcement of our latest series, New Perspectives on the Civil War; intern alumni spotlight; and more.

The annual Spotlight on the Arts Festival begins next week at the University of Georgia. As part of the festival, UGA Press and the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Library are hosting a book talk with Georgia Women: Their Lives and Times—Volume 2 editors Ann Short Chirhart and Kathleen Ann Clark, The talk, titled "Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History: Georgia Women Shape the Twentieth-Century," will be held at 3 p.m. on November 11 in Room 285 of the Russell Special Collections Building.
