Friends,

International Widows Day, June 23rd, was launched in 2010 as a way to acknowledge and honor all widows around the world by the United Nations. It is a day to consider what must be done to safeguard and advance the rights of all widows and to raise awareness of the violation of human rights that widows suffer in many countries following the death of their spouses.

I encourage you to take a few minutes on June 23rd to pray for widows all around the world that they will find a way through this journey of grief; find a group or even just that one other person who walks with them; for an understanding from others how to serve and care for these women, and they all feel the love of Christ who is the ultimate healer.

Celebrating the Lord

Young Life continues to serve widows by offering them a safe place to heal and move forward, finding purpose in this new life. The growth in our fourth year of ministry to widows has been significant. Here are some praises to celebrate how the the Lord has been faithful:

MARCH - A group of widows and non widows met in Colorado Springs for discussions on where The Lord is leading us to grow. We toured the YL Service Center, even met with Newt and Susan Crenshaw who offered such encouragement. We ended our time with facilitator training, high tea at Glen Eryre, and lots of dreams for what is next.

APRIL - The Houston Texas area women met for a mini retreat for two nights at a wonderful get away on a private ranch in Brenham. This group has grown to 35 women who plan gatherings at least once a month.

MAY - We launched a new group in the Denver area with two new amazing leaders Jane Bruce and Patty Shouse. They are serving a group of women who join the monthly zoom conversations and meet face to face for fellowship and fun activities.

Looking Ahead

SEPTEMBER - Several women from our group are headed to Woodleaf, a YL camp in California, to serve on work crew for the Young Life Middle Eurasia Friends and Family Camp. We are all looking for purpose in our new lives and grateful to have places to serve.
OCTOBER - The 2024 Widow’s Way Retreat happening October 20-22 at Lost Canyon YL camp in AZ. This time will be filled with adventure, sharing, growing, and quiet time to be with the Lord.
