With final exams and commencement just wrapping up, the last few weeks have been both busy and exciting. As the holidays draw near, I hope winter break can be a time of peace, rest, and renewal.
UTA’s official holiday break will be Wednesday, December 24, 2025 – Thursday, January 1, 2026. In addition, UTA President, Dr. Jennifer Cowley, has authorized Friday, January 2 as an additional day off for all UTA employees.
Please enjoy the break and know that I wish you a joyous holiday season and look forward to welcoming you back for the Spring 2026 semester.
Happy Holidays!

Familiar nutrient may help regrow soldiers’ muscles after wartime blast injuries: Coordinated by the UTA media relations team, Zui Pan (CONHI) spoke with The Dallas Morning News about her study exploring if a zinc-infused gel can spur injured muscle to regenerate after a blast. Such traumatic injuries most often occur when an explosive force sends a powerful pressure wave through the body, tearing muscle and other tissues. Military.com, UrbanTecno, and Stars and Stripes reshared it.
UT Arlington researchers call for more insight on 'potential lifeline' for rural hospitals: KERA's interview with CONHI professors Suzanne Daly and Elizabeth Merwin on their research on the Rural Emergency Hospital program has been shared by numerous outlets including NewsBreak, the Arlington Report, San Antonio's KSTX, and HealthLeaders Media.
Marion Ball continues to bring change through shaping the future of health science on a global scale, all while providing tremendous visibility to UTA. The publishers of Dr. Ball's latest book, Nursing Informatics: A Health Informatics, Interprofessional and Global Perspective, 5th Edition, hosted a book signing at the MEDINFO 2025 conference in Taiwan to celebrate its translation into Korean and now Mandarin, the most widely spoken language other than English.
