Youth Protection Program
Sacramento State is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for all members of the campus community and visiting members of the public. While one of our main focal points is our matriculated students, there are also many University connected activities, programs, camps, and special events on campus where the focus is fostering the interests of non-matriculated youth under eighteen (18) years. The University is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of those youth while they are enjoying the benefits of a connected experience at Sacramento State.
In support of this goal, and with
Chancellor's office guidance, Sacramento State is upgrading and expanding its Youth Protection Program, which includes the creation of a new position, a Youth Protection Analyst.
The Youth Protection Program applies to all activities, programs, camps, and special events (on and off campus) where outside organizations, university employees, faculty, program supervisors, students, and volunteers are involved or participate in programs and activities where youth are present.
The main purpose of our expanded program is to organize, review, and enhance youth protection functions for all these disparate programs and activities through a single office within Risk Management. This will ensure that the Youth Protection functions are simplified and effective and that university personnel who are involved in these activities and events get access to unified information, advice, and program services for youth protection in a timely manner.
As the Youth Protection Program is implemented this semester, we will work directly with youth program-connected university personnel to collect the information related to the activities and events that involve youth. This will enable us to manage the requirements for those activities and events that include:
- Mandatory registration form for all university-connected youth programs, activities and events.
- Mandatory background check for those who are in direct contact and supervision of youth.
- Providing Youth protection training as appropriate and required.
- Providing Youth protection advice and consultation services for our university personnel before, during and after the programs and events.
