         Programs and Resources for your Professional Development - August 2022

SMHS Fundamentals of Leadership for Faculty and Staff - Accepting Applications Now!

This seven-month program is designed to help full-time SMHS faculty and staff with new or expanded leadership responsibilities. The program includes self-tests, readings, group discussion, action planning, and other activities to help enhance fundamental leadership competencies related to individuals, teams, change, and most importantly, oneself. You must have a work project to focus on during the program. This could be a new program or service you are starting in your department or across several departments.
Monthly in-person sessions begin December 8, 2022, with a 1-day orientation and are followed by half-day sessions from January through June 2023. All sessions must be attended in person. In between sessions, participants will work on their projects and receive assistance from program faculty and a designated mentor.
Up to 12 faculty and staff members will be accepted. Support from your department/division chair or supervisor is required. Please click here for more details and to submit an application. 
Applications are due on or before October 14, 2022
Applicants will be notified by November 1, 2022.

SMHS Academy of Education Scholars - Accepting Applications Now!

SMHS Academy of Education Scholars
The Academy seeks to develop and recognize excellence in education scholarship and research to advance the practice of medical and health sciences education and to improve the quality of SMHS educational programs and patient care. We welcome applications from all full time, regular status SMHS faculty, all disciplines, all specialties, and teaching at all levels. Applications for this program are now open and the deadline to apply is September 30, 2022.

Teaching Essentials Series

Each session has a brief online component (video and application activity) followed by a 1-hour in-person or virtual session to dig deeper and apply concepts. Each session is held on the last Monday of each month (December Session will be held on December 12, 2022)The next session is on September 26, 2022.

SMHS Fall 2022 Anti-Racism Book Club - Starting September

SMHS Anti-Racism Book Club
The GW SMHS Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism Coalition (ARC), and Center for Faculty Excellence invite all SMHS faculty and staff to register and participate in our Fall 2022 Book Club discussion series on the book Under the Skin by Linda Villarosa.
This book club will consist of 3 sessions, one each month from September through November, held virtually via Zoom. Participants are encouraged to attend all 3 sessions but are welcome to attend as available.

Faculty Focused Resources

The Collaborative Care Model: How to Integrate Behavioral Health into Your Practice
This course presents providers with evidence-based information and tools to integrate behavioral health care skills into their practice using the Collaborative Care Model. In a time of widespread need for clinical assessment and early intervention services for depression and other behavioral health conditions, providers can learn about how their patient care practices can be adapted to address this need effectively. This module is a lecture-style format with knowledge check questions at the end of the presentation.
