The Exemption Exam for ES2 will take place on Wednesday, October 19 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (students who require accommodations or have a conflict may contact Professor Ethan Danahy, see below.)
What is ES2?
The School of Engineering has a “computation requirement” for all students that, depending on major, may be satisfied with CS11 or ES2. The ES2 course (Introduction to Computation for Engineering) is offered Spring semester and often taken by many SoE first-year students.
What is the ES2 Exemption Exam?
Some students arrive at Tufts with a strong programming background. The Exemption Exam identifies this and exempts them from the ES2 degree requirement.
What is the Exam format?
The one-hour exam is done virtually on Wednesday, October 19 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. You download a PDF of the exam that you will find on the Exemption Exam for ES 2 website, write code (in language of your choice) to answer questions, and then upload your solutions via a Google Form.
Do I need ES2?
ES2 is either not required (e.g. for CS majors), is an option (ES2 or CS11), or a requirement (ES2 and CS11) depending on your declared SoE major.
It is recommended students please include "ES2 Exemption Exam" as part of your email subject to facilitate communication.
