Summer 2018 Senior Service Award Winner, Jessica Suckow

Each semester, the UNF Alumni Association selects a graduating senior for outstanding service to the University and the community through volunteerism. The recipient of the Senior Service Award for the summer 2018 graduating class is Jessica Suckow.

A graduate from the Brooks College of Health with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Suckow exemplifies UNF’s spirit of servant-leadership and civic commitment through her focus on making a difference and her desire to help and lead others. The mindset of “if not me, then who” was instilled at a young age, and Suckow has carried that with her throughout her experiences as a wife, mother and full-time student.

Alligator Eggs Provide Climate Change Insight

UNF student researchers, led by assistant professor Dr. Adam Rosenblatt, seek to understand the impacts of increased temperature on alligator reproduction. Four hundred alligators eggs are estimated to begin hatching within the next three weeks.
Listen to Dr. Rosenblatt and student Molly O’Brien discuss this uniquely UNF project with Melissa Ross on First Coast Connect.

Ann-Marie A. Knight.

Ann-Marie A. Knight, '96, MHA, FACHE

Ann-Marie Knight graduated from UNF in 1996 with a Bachelors of Business Administration in banking and finance. At the time, she was an active duty Navy enlisted service member and sees her years at UNF as one of the catalysts of her successful career.
Knight earned a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University and retired as a Naval Officer after 24 years of service. She's currently the community relations administrator for Mayo Clinic Florida.
"UNF means many things to me and that meaning has changed pretty significantly for me over the years.  As a student, I would have said UNF’s meaning to me focused solely on my education and the things it could do for my career with the degree," Knight said. "Today, as a mom of an Osprey and a person in the community who cares about this community’s growth, UNF has a much bigger meaning to me."
Some of Knight's favorite memories of UNF are the diversity of her peers in the classroom. Having the unique perspective of being in the Navy at the time, she fondly remembers learning from people with a variety of backgrounds, whose perspective and place in life were different than hers.
Knight sees the mentorship of the next generation of healthcare leaders as immensely important. Since returning to Jacksonville in 2004, she has served as a preceptor for UNF students as interns during her time at the Naval Hospital as well as currently at Mayo Clinic and has served as an adjunct professor at UNF.
"I smile each and every time I see us in national rankings and as the campus grows, increasing offerings to citizens of our community," she said. "Good academic institutions offering a wide variety of courses are key to our community’s vibrancy. I am so delighted to see UNF has flourished as much as it has."
