Hello everyone! My name is Shahad Al Wuhaili, and I am a second year majoring in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering with a minor in Bioengineering. I currently live in Pasquerilla East but will be calling Farley home this upcoming school year.
I was born in Libya, but I am from Iraq which is where I spent half of my childhood, and I currently live in Cleveland, Ohio (queue the Ohio jokes…). I am also a premedical student, so I tend to be more involved in research & volunteering. This past summer I did some invigorating Cardiology research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, with the help of the Galvin Scholars. Not only did I get to learn about medical school and conduct research projects independently, but I got to meet some of my closest friends as they were also Galvin Scholars! I am currently in the Del Valle Lab and will be spending the summer on campus to work on an exciting project (please reach out if you are also staying!).
I am very involved with the Muslim Student Association and serve on the board. It is something I am very passionate about and love educating people on Islam and its people. We hold some amazing events (w/ really good food) and all are more than welcome! I will also be serving as the International Engagement and Outreach Director in the Executive Cabinet for Student Government, if you are interested in joining my department, I’d love to have you. Some other things I’m involved in are Balfour Hesburgh Scholars Program, Transformational Leaders Programs, Global Medical Brigades (Panama <3), and Recsports (lots of cool Galvins work there). With the Galvins, I am an ASCEND Coach as well as Calculus tutor, and I absolutely love it.
This program is a blessing with so many resources and incredible people to guide and support you. We have some of the best advisors, professors, and upperclassmen to help us, and it is undeniably a privilege. Don’t be afraid to reach out and talk about anything, academics, Galvin, research, finding a community, where to find the best caffeinated drinks, truly anything.
