Stoic Week Begins Today

Stoic Week is an annual event hosted by the folks at ModernStoicism.com (enrollment in the online course/discussion community is free). The official dates of Stoic Week 2018 are 10/1-10/7. During the week, participants receive daily Stoic meditation exercises and can engage in online discuss with other practicing stoics from around the world.
This year the UNC Philosophy Club will be participating and are hosting some campus events to facilitate face-to-face discussion and reflection on Stoic practices. View the Stoic Week flyer.
  • Monday 10/1: Group viewing/discussion of the official introductory webinar for Stoic Week — McKee Hall 338, 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday 10/2: Guest lecture/discussion by Evan Oakley (Chair of English Department at Aims Community College, recently featured on the Modern Stoicism blog) — Ross Hall 1040, 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday 10/9: Group reflection on lessons learned from the week, led by Nancy Matchett (Chair of Philosophy at UNC) — Ross Hall 1040, 6:30 p.m.

The HSS Interdisciplinary Seminar Series includes monthly talks that feature the latest scholarship in Humanities and Social Sciences. Speakers include UNC faculty from across campus as well as scholars from universities around the country. These seminars foster collegiality, intellectual exchange, and encourage creativity and scholarly achievement. Undergraduate and Graduate students are encouraged to attend. The intent of the Interdisciplinary Seminar Series is the promotion of the vibrant intellectual culture at UNC exemplified by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
