On November 27, join fellow alumni at The Loft at Luna in downtown Grand Rapids for Giving Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Ten dollars of your ticket goes right to the Student Support Fund, a fund used to help any student progressing towards graduation that needs extra help. Give back while you network and enjoy a November evening on the town!

Alumnus Researches Use of Artificial Intelligence for Humanitarian Efforts 
For many years, drones have been widely used for military operations.  A recent computer science graduate took a deep dive into researching another use of drones: search and rescue efforts for humanitarian purposes. For his thesis project, computer science alumnus Juan Gonzalo Cárcamo Zuluaga, '18, developed a prototype to enable an autonomous drone to learn how to successfully fly, navigate, and search for objects without human intervention.

GVSU Accountability Report Shows Continued Strong Performance
Grand Valley State University's annual Accountability Report shows the university is again a top performer in the state in several key areas, including providing access to students who might not otherwise be able to afford a college degree and keeping students on a path to a timely graduation. The 12th annual report was released at Grand Valley's Board of Trustees meeting on November 2 at the Eberhard Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus.

Students Help Red Wings Prepare for Season
Grand Valley exercise science and athletic training students helped Detroit Red Wings players prepare for their new season during the team’s preseason development camp in Traverse City. The students assisted Red Wings staff conducting medical examinations and testing the physical fitness of players.

Grand Valley Breaks Ground on DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health
More than 300 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony on October 23 for the Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health on Grand Valley's expanding Health Campus in downtown Grand Rapids. President Haas thanked donors and elected officials for their "continuing transformative support" of Grand Valley and its students. Haas said the naming of the building for Dan and Pamella DeVos reflects the genuine care and concern they have for the community and its future.

Five Lakers Earn All-GLIAC Honors in Women's Tennis
The Grand Valley women's tennis team placed five players on the All-GLIAC team, while Vera Griva was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year. Senior Madison Ballard and Vera Griva were named First Team All-GLIAC, while freshmen Marija Leko and Marily Canellopoulos received Second Team All-GLIAC honors. In addition, Nicole Heiniger also earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC accolades.

Laker wrestlers at Fall Brawl
Club Sport Highlight: Lakers Claim Three Titles at the GLC Fall Wrestling Brawl
Eight Lakers represented the wrestling program well on October 28, with all wrestlers placing in their respective bracket. GVSU wrestlers won three titles, finished second at two weights, and third at three more. The Lakers won more weight categories and had more placers than any other team at the tournament. Additionally, GVSU was the only program to have each entrant earn a place.

Jamie Hosford Football Center Expansion

You can be a part of continuing the excellence that has made Grand Valley’s football program the most successful in NCAA Division II history! All gifts given to the center expansion will be recognized by name on the donor wall in the building. Jamie Hosford, who passed away in 2014, was the first athlete in Grand Valley history to receive 12 varsity letters and earn All-American honors in two sports.
