Dear Sewanee Family,
June is a quiet time on the Mountain for most, but here in the Division of University Relations, we are working hard to bring the University's fiscal year to a successful close.
Last month, we celebrated a joyful commencement for the Class of 2023, welcoming hundreds of parents, families, and friends to the Mountain for a wonderful weekend filled with memories made. Best wishes to the Class of 2023 as they begin the next chapter of their lives!
The end of Sewanee's fiscal year is just around the corner on June 30! I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the 6,757 members of the Sewanee family who have supported the University with a gift already this year. If you have not yet had a chance to make your contribution, you can find the right method of giving for you at waystogive.sewanee.edu.

Holland, C'75, and Debbie West Broaden Students' Horizons with Study Away and Ralston Listening Library Gifts
|
Though he almost attended a large, public university, Holland West, C’75, found his way to Sewanee with support from scholarship funding—and, he says, the Mountain was a perfect fit. Together with his wife Debbie and their children, West has established the Holland West (C’1975) & Family Study Away Endowment, supporting a range of non-academic travel expenses for underrepresented students. The Wests also give to the William Ralston Listening Library. To encourage additional gifts in these two areas, they are now matching donations dollar-for-dollar.

Dr. Dick Briggs, Jr., C'56, Creates $1M Scholarship Fund through Direct IRA Contributions
|
Direct IRA contributions to the Briggs Scholarship Fund have allowed Dr. Dick Briggs, Jr., C'56, P'86, P'91, GP'22, and his three children to establish $1 million in financial aid for high-achieving Sewanee students from Alabama and Mississippi. The family created the Fund in memory of Briggs' late wife, Susan. "I would encourage anyone who has an IRA, and wants to engage in charitable giving, to consider using it," Briggs says.

| Cheers to 3s and 8s: It's Your Year!
|
Who remembers Billboard’s #1 single for 1993? It was Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” What about the cost of a stamp in 1978? Only 13 cents! If you’re feeling nostalgic, so are we—and we can’t wait to celebrate Sewanee’s classes ending in 3 and 8 during this year’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. If you’re in a reunion year, there’s no better time to make a gift in honor of your Sewanee experience. Feel free to rewatch Iron Man 3 too. (It was a box office #1 in 2013!)
