A NEW LOOK FOR THE ADDISON'S FAÇADE
Two new large-scale site-specific works by artist Jennifer Cecere have been installed on the Phillips Academy campus: an aluminum doily that hangs on the Addison's exterior and a folded doily bench that sits in Abbot Circle on School Street. Join Cecere for a virtual discussion of this project and her body of work this afternoon (or look for the recording online shortly afterwards). And read more about our current exhibitions and upcoming programs, as well as a remembrance of Frank Stella, a wonderful friend to the Addison, below.
The Addison is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Abbot Academy and Phillips Academy becoming a single institution, Jennifer Cecere (Abbot 1969) has created two site-specific installations. Referencing and recontextualizing the humble lace ornament, an oversized and reflective doily adorns the Addison’s façade, while one of the artist’s signature doily benches enlivens Abbot Circle.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Frank Stella earlier this month. The Addison is fortunate to have had a long and meaningful relationship with Stella, who began seriously pursuing art in the 1950s as a student at Phillips Academy, where he found inspiration in the galleries of the Addison.

Later, Stella was instrumental in enhancing the museum’s holdings of contemporary art and ensuring that future students would be able to engage with the art of their time as well as that of the past. His magnanimous gift of works by artists such as Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Ad Reinhardt, Kenneth Noland, Agnes Martin, and Stella himself remain important sources of inspiration to students and visitors today.
