Tennessee 4-H Electric Camp Has Sparked Youth Interest in STEM for 35 Years
The Tennessee 4-H Electric Camp, which begins today, creates an interactive learning experience for more than 200 4-H’ers each summer, sparking early interests in STEM.
Tennessee 4-H Electric Camp and its 12,000 to 13,000 participants since its creation is made possible by unique partnerships among The University of Tennessee Extension, TECA and its statewide member cooperatives, the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association and its statewide member municipal systems, the Tennessee Valley Authority and allied industry donors. Thank you!

The Tennessee Electric Co-op Association Supports 4-H at Electric Camp and Beyond

4-H'ers have so many opportunities because of the many generous sponsors. The Tennessee Electric Co-op Association (TECA) and its consumer-owned electric co-ops assist and advance future leaders through Tennessee 4-H.

“Supporting 4-H is a natural fit for electric co-ops,” says BJ Bernard, TECA vice president of member services. “Just like co-ops, 4-H is rooted in education, leadership and community. By investing in these programs, we’re helping young leaders gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed, while also strengthening the communities we serve.”

Fresh Changes Improve Tennessee 4-H Congress

Each year, Tennessee 4-H’ers take a front row seat, literally, to see how state government operates at the Tennessee 4-H Congress. New changes at the 2026 Tennessee 4-H Congress fostered deeper connections and greater interactivity among attendees.

The 2026 event was restructured from its previous format to focus on issue-based committees, where delegates were assigned to committees focused on areas such as health, agriculture, transportation, education and 4-H. Within these committees, members worked together to develop legislative bills that addressed real-world topics and issues.
Other changes included the development of a true legislative docket process, which allowed delegates to vote on which bills would move forward for debate and the order they’d appear on the docket, before being potentially passed and signed into “law,” and more time at the Tennessee State Capitol, providing intentional interaction with the legislative environment.
