St. James’ Episcopal Church is readying the town center for Norman’s Attic Fall Fest! Originally conceived as a community-wide tag sale over 25 years ago and named in honor of Saturday Evening Post illustrator and long-time resident Norman Rockwell, the event continues to feature offerings from private homes, barns, and attics throughout the village. Tents and booths will line both sides of the Main Street’s marble sidewalks and in front of the Church for the day, making it a pleasure for pedestrians to shop for gifts and treasures as they stroll. Entertainment will be provided by local folk bands and performers. Food is always a highlight, from coffee and pastries available at the start of the event to a well-stocked and ably-tended grill serving hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and sides from late morning on. Manchester, VT | September 12, 8am

The Maple Leaf Half Marathon traverses truly gorgeous Vermont landscapes. Your run will take you from the downtown community to picturesque village settings to country roads past farm lands back to the finish. Adding to the beauty, Vermont will be in the early stages of fall foliage. The Maple Leaf Half Marathon and Kotler 5K will be run in beautiful Manchester, Vermont, a vibrant region with much to offer. Organization is excellent, and the course is scenic and enjoyable. There is something for everyone on this rural Vermont tour and is slated as one of those “must do” New England races. Volunteers are always needed if you’re interested in being a part of the excitement without racing. Visit here to learn more.

Manchester, VT | September 3, 3pm to 4pm

Gather with friends at the greenhouse and gardens in the dene at the height of the summer season to learn how to cut and arrange beautiful seasonal flowers while enjoying refreshing herbal teas made from our own herbs and garden botanicals with Ann Ogden Hausslein. Participants will create a fresh bouquet to take home while learning simple floral arranging techniques inspired by Hildene's gardens. Please bring a favorite vase. The greenhouse is at the gardens in the dene. Registration is required by September 2. This program does not include admission to Hildene for the day. 

Poultney, VT | September 26, 11am to 1:30pm

The Poultney Rotary Club is pleased to bring the 36th Annual Chili Cook Off to downtown Poultney this fall! The longest running chili cook off in Vermont is looking for Chili Cookers. There is no cost to register your team. In addition to the Chili Cook Off competition and tasting, EnerJazz Big Band will play, a silent auction will line the center of Main Street, Wonderfeet Museum will provide fun activities for the kids, and the famous Chili T-shirts will be back! Judging is by a panel of 3 judges and also by popular vote. There will be $1,000 in prizes! Register your team here.

The Winhall Industrial Society is looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s Bondville Fair, the oldest fair in Vermont, operating continually since 1797. Gates open at 10am daily and rides open at 11am daily. Admission Prices*: Seniors / Veterans are $5 at all times (65+ with ID); Friday $10 before 5pm and $20 after 5pm; Saturday $25; and Sunday $20. *Please note the front gate is cash only and no dogs are permitted on the fairgrounds. Northshire Bookstore presents J Brooke, who will share poems from their USA Today bestselling debut collection, listed by Ms. Magazine as one of the best poetry collections of 2026, a book that delivers candid commentary on a unique gender journey. This event is presented in partnership with PFLAG Dorset. J Brooke's I Can Tell You the Version That Will Make You Take My Side begins in a rich and specific New York City childhood full of binaries, then catapults into a fully realized, self-aware adulthood where the speaker experiences parenting, a breast cancer scare, and the complicated questioning of top-surgery. J Brooke's work is known for exploring gender, family, and the incendiary combination of the two. Born intrinsically male, assigned female at birth, and raised in affluent dysfunction in New York City, their gender expression attempted male, cis straight female, and cis gay female before embracing a nonbinary identity. Bennington, VT | August 29, 5pm to 7pm

Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra will bring life to Merchant’s Park this weekend! The free concert is presented by Vermont Arts Exchange in partnership with Better Bennington Corporation and sponsored by the Bank of Bennington. Along with the concert, there will be free dance lessons from 4pm to 5pm with Tango Fusion Dance Co. and homemade Latin food by Latina Chef Carolina Ponce available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. The rain venue is Bennington Theater, just around the corner. Formed October 1980 in Amsterdam, New York, this twelve piece orchestra is led by the Bronx-born bassist Alex Torres. They have been presented by hundreds of festivals and performing arts centers annually to perform their original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Bomba, Plena, and Latin Jazz. The Orchestra has been the recipient of numerous awards including the New England Cultural Arts Preservation Award and the New York State Music Achievement Award. They have shared the stage and billings with such major acts as Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Arturo Sandoval, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Arrested Development, Branford Marsalis, and The Count Basie Orchestra. Nordic Harmoni

Come and join the celebration at The Second Congregational Church for a lively afternoon of music benefiting the Londonderry Neighbors Food Pantry! Enjoy performances by Nordic Harmoni, The Buzzards, and talented soloists from our own community. Bring your friends, enjoy some great music, and help make a difference for local families. Donations will be accepted at the door. The Neighbors Pantry, a not-for-profit organization in Londonderry, has been serving eight Mountain community towns (Londonderry, South Londonderry, Jamaica, Landgrove, Peru, Weston, Winhall and Windham) since 1988. The Neighbors Pantry distributes food and other supplies to any community member in need residing in the above towns. Emergency distributions are also available. Nordic Harmoni is the only Swedish-American chorus in Southern Vermont. They welcome all interested singers to join for rehearsals at the Second Congregational Church in Londonderry where they sing both in English (70%) and Swedish (30%). Bennington, VT | September 4-6 and September 11-13

Bennington Theater presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile, a comedic play by Steve Martin that imagines a meeting between a young Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein in a Parisian bar in 1904. The play explores themes of art, science, and genius through witty dialogue and a surreal encounter with Elvis Presley. It blends slapstick humor with profound questions, and was a major success, premiering at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre before moving to Los Angeles and New York. The play features the characters of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, who meet at a bar called the Lapin Agile (French for "Nimble Rabbit") in Montmartre, Paris. It is set on October 8, 1904, and both men are on the verge of disclosing amazing ideas (Einstein will publish his special theory of relativity in 1905 and Picasso will paint Les Demoiselles d'Avignon in 1907). At the Lapin Agile, they have a lengthy debate about the value of genius and talent, while interacting with a host of other characters. The show is directed and produced by John Lugar. Poultney, VT | August 28-30

One Room Theatrics, a Rutland County based non-profit theatre company, returns to Stone Valley Arts for a limited engagement of Tracy Letts’ psychological thriller Bug. The story begins when Agnes, a divorced waitress with a fondness for cocaine and isolation, meets Peter, a soft-spoken Gulf War drifter, in a seedy motel room in Oklahoma City. Matters become complicated as Agnes’ abusive ex-husband Jerry returns, expecting to resume their relationship. On top of that, Peter and Agnes have discovered a hidden bug infestation in their room which leaves them dealing with scathing welts and festering sores. Their fears soon escalate into paranoia, conspiracy theories, and twisted psychological motives. This performance contains explicit language, sexual content, body mutilation, depictions of drug usage, moments of terror, loud noises, blood, and depictions of domestic violence.
