New, 96-gallon recycling carts are coming to Atlantic County residents next year under a new five-year contract with the Atlantic County Utilities Authority.

The Township Committee is scheduled to vote today on the contract, which would take effect July 1 and run through June 30, 2031. According to the ACUA contract, all materials must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on a resident's designated collection day, and all solid waste should be placed at least 10 feet from recyclables.
Also on the agenda, the committee will hold public hearings and final votes on ordinances that will reduce the number of available plenary retail consumption liquor licenses by one and establish parking regulations at the township community center on English Creek Avenue.

New Jersey American Water (NJAW) completed its acquisition of the water system of Hopewell Borough on June 30 for $6.4 million. This is New Jersey American Water’s 10th acquisition in the last five years, adding more than 25,000 water and/or wastewater customers.

This former municipally owned system in Hopewell Borough serves about 930 water customer connections and has been purchasing water from NJAW to meet a portion of the borough’s water supply since 2005. On June 30, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved the municipal consent, allowing New Jersey American Water to provide water service to Hopewell Borough customers as of the closing of the transaction.
As part of the agreement, NJAW will invest $7 million in infrastructure improvements to the Hopewell Borough system within the first five years of ownership. Anticipated improvements to the system include identifying and replacing all lead and galvanized steel service lines as well as upgrading aging customer meters, fire hydrants, and water mains.

| A proposal to redevelop an Atlantic County waterfront lot in Venice Park into a nursery for shellfish recently took a step forward after the Atlantic City Planning Board voted to approve a site plan for the project.

Documents made public by the board state that the LLC intends to build a 1.5-story metal storage building with a mezzanine office and a parking lot for seven cars on the 21,070-square-foot lot at 1937 North Riverside Drive. The review says the building will also include a roof over a concrete pad work area at the western end of the building and a 10-foot-by-10-foot trash and recycling enclosure.
A 2023 report in NJ Spotlight News says commercial fishing, along with shellfish farming, contributes approximately $1 billion a year to the state’s economy. All the while, the Venice Park neighborhood in Atlantic City has seen a wave of new city investment in recent years.

Located at 5301 Black Horse Pike (Route 42) in Washington Township, ScrubHaven has taken over the storefront previously occupied by Scrub Pro Uniforms, which closed last summer. According to the company’s website, ScrubHaven carries more than 25 leading brands, including Dickies, Cherokee, Grey’s Anatomy, Landau, Urbane, Littmann, MDF, and ADC stethoscopes.
The business was established in 2005 as Drexel Healthcare Supplies before being rebranded as ScrubHaven more than a decade later. Today, the family-owned and operated company serves medical professionals throughout Philadelphia, the Delaware Valley, and now South Jersey with its new Washington Township location.

| Big-name concerts, new restaurants and bars, and fireworks that last a lot longer than July 4 are part of what Atlantic City is offering visitors this summer.

Resorts Casino Hotel recently announced that its on-site Italian restaurant, Capriccio, will host Bubbles & Brunch, Atlantic City’s only bottomless brunch, every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 1927 Lounge at Ocean Casino Resort will debut “America’s Birthday Bar,” an immersive, Americana-inspired pop-up experience featuring festive décor, themed photo opportunities and specialty cocktails to celebrate the nation’s milestone anniversary. On July 10, North Beach will host its annual fireworks display, which is free and open to the public. Guests can watch along the north end of the Boardwalk, including at Steel Pier, Resorts, Hard Rock, the Showboat Resort Atlantic City and Ocean Casino Resort.
