Update #2 regarding in-person human subjects research activities in Campus facilities
Dear Colleagues,
This is a follow-up to the message sent on August 5th. Campus IRB studies conducted on campus and in Duke-leased facilities with human subject participants remain suspended; however, we are moving forward with a process to prepare for the return of these activities. All activities that can remain remote should continue until further notice.
Although no date has been set to resume in-person activities, we are able to begin return planning with research teams who may wish to do so. This planning will involve teams submitting individualized return plans, providing information about which faculty and staff will need to be on campus (and when), and coordinating with business units and the appropriate safety and public health offices to understand how and if buildings can accommodate the proposed activities. Investigators interested in beginning the planning process can reach out to Marnie Rhoads at marnie.rhoads@duke.edu.
We will continue to update the research community about the timing of the reopening of on-premises activities, as well as plans for resuming in-person activities at offsite locations. Thank you for your patience as we all work towards solutions in the midst of an ever-changing institutional, community, and national situation.
Please direct your questions about resuming human subjects research to Marnie Rhoads at marnie.rhoads@duke.edu.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Carin,
Vice President for Research
