Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Update
| |
Last week, Gwinnett County released information on its Equitable Redevelopment Plan for Gwinnett Place Mall. If you missed the coverage, head to the News section of this email for additional information.
With input from more than 2,500 community members, the Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Strategy team, comprised of the CID, Gwinnett County, the Atlanta Regional Commission, and the planning firm VHB, is crafting a value-based, data-driven, market-supportable and economically feasible redevelopment implementation strategy for the mall site.
In the future, Gwinnett Place will be a high-density, mixed-use regional activity center rooted in global cultures, diversity and opportunity. The Cultural District concept is predominantly residential with modest amounts of new retail and office space. A new international cultural and community center, along with a central park space are the focal points.
Key public investments would include over 16 acres of parks and public space that might include the aforementioned cultural center with classrooms, an international library, language lab, office space for nonprofits, along with an entrepreneur incubator space. The central green would come alive with arts, cultural events, an amphitheater and water features and could feature a 1.25-mile greenway and trail along Ring Road. Structured parking would free acres of surface parking to be repurposed as additional green space, trails, bike paths and buildings. Finally, transportation would be a critical component of redevelopment and could include I-85 Interchange and access improvements, a trail to McDaniel Farm Park, possible bus rapid transit (BRT), and an improved transit center and more!
Ultimately, the success of the Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Strategy will be tied to how well we respond to the opportunities and challenges of the real estate market. For information on the economic development analysis, click here.

June Honors Juneteenth, PRIDE and Great Outdoors Month
| |
June is filled with commemorations and celebrations! Gwinnett Place CID was proud to be the first CID to officially observe Juneteenth last year, and this year the GPCID office will be closed on Monday, June 20, in honor of the national holiday.
As one of the most diverse districts in the county, we also want to recognize that June is PRIDE month. Our goal is to continuously strive for diversity, inclusion and equity in our district. If you’re looking for information on PRIDE events in the County, visit this link here.
June is also Great Outdoors Month and we have two great parks near our district. McDaniel Farm Park, where you can get a glimpse of Georgia farming history on its 134 acres, and Shorty Howell Park which features a 1.25-mile paved trail, playgrounds, a lake and more.
