Climate and Seasons in Oxford

Oxford has four seasons. Over the course of the year, you will need clothes for hot, humid weather, rain, snow and ice. Before you depart, we suggest you check out weather.com (Oxford's zip code is 45056). Dressing in layers and wearing winter hats, gloves and scarfs are good way of dealing with cold winter weather.

On-Campus Dining

If you live on campus, you are required to have a meal plan that lets you eat at any dining facility on campus. To purchase your food, you need to tap or swipe your ID card and pay. Depending on the location, you will either pay one flat rate and eat everything you'd like or just pay for the items you order.

There is a wide range of food available, such as sandwiches, pizza, Asian stir fry, Italian pasta, Mexican food, etc. Check out the on-campus dining list to know what is served before your arrival!

Mail & Package Services

If you live on campus, you can use the Mail & Package Center up to 2 weeks before Spring classes begin. Please make sure that you correctly spell out your name (as it appears on your Miami Student ID, or your preferred name if you have registered your preferred name in your Miami Account), room number, and residence hall; otherwise, your mail and packages may be returned. After you arrive on campus, you need to go to the Mail & Package Center located in Shriver Center to get your mail/packages.
If you live off campus and want to mail your packages in advance, you need to arrange it with your housing manager by yourself.

Duo Mobile

Duo is a two-factor authentication solution that allows more comprehensive security on our systems. If you are a student in China and have difficulty enrolling in Duo, you can request a temporary bypass of the Duo system until you arrive on campus.

Other international students will be able to enroll with your international phone number. Follow the instructions for setting up a new phone with Duo. When you get to the U.S., you will need to add your U.S. phone to your Duo account. Please see the Knowledge Base for more information about adding a second device. More information and further instructions can be found on our Duo Security page.

Next issue, we will be covering the following topics: health insurance, immunization form, Miami ID & Technology and iPOL profiles. Stay tuned!
