In honor of Black History Month

YWCA is proud of the work put in by many to ensure that the  YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center has survived and thrived the last 100 years!
Our friends at the Shopper News and WATE spent some time with YWCA staff learning more about the history and the future of the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center. Check out the stories by clicking the links above!
If you or someone you know would like to share their story about the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center, please contact Karlyn Reel at
865-523-6126 or kreel@ywcaknox.com.
Kendrick Tate, YWCA Mentor Coordinator sat down with WBIR to talk about GameChangers.

"You can't change the game by sitting on the sideline"

Our friends at WBIR and Oak Ridge High School helped us raise awareness about Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February!
GameChangers pairs adult male mentors with a small group of middle-school-aged boys and discusses topics such as domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and much more.
Check out the segment with WBIR by clicking HERE.

ORHS Cheerleaders wore purple ribbons in their hair to show their solidarity with the "purple-out" at a basketball game.

We know that 1 in 3 high school students experience physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
The Oak Ridge High School Counseling Department and Student Council organized a "purple-out" during a basketball game in order to help raise awareness about teen dating violence.
If you're interested in joining YWCA's Domestic Violence Awareness Month Committee, please contact AllyJohnson at 865-523-6126 or aejohnson@ywcaknox.com.

Spread some LOVE and be KIND!

Youth at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center decided to celebrate Valentine's Day by hosting a "Be Kind Party!" Students encouraged everyone to be kind, whether that's toward a friend, family member or a stranger!
Thank you to the Garden Study Club for donating over 60 flower arragements for the women in the Keys of Hope Women's Program

Providing snacks to youth!

Thank you to our friends at Kroger for donating $2,500 to provide snacks for the youth who attend the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center's After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP)!
Each day, in addition to enrichment and fun... Youth receive a snack as a part of ASEP. It's with Kroger's help that this is possible- Thank you!
